Hi guys. I tought I made share this with you. Last summer Me ans my brother drove our patrols on frying oil. We got frying oil from resturants that had been used and was beeing replaced with new oil. It saves alot of money and your truck smells like a BBQ when you drive. My biggest problem was that the passangers alway got very hungry when they were driving with me because of the BBQ smell hehe;)
The recipie is very simple.
1 bucket.
some sheets og jeans to filter trough
some cans to put the filtered oil on.

Now I´m going to do this a different way. I wil filter the oil through sheets og jeans in to a bucket. Then I´m going to use a diesel filter from a patrol and filter it again to get it more pure. I bought a universal fuelpump wich runs on 12V. I take the intake hose to the pump and put it in the bucket, and the output hose to the can. But there is another problem. In Iceland the winter is cold as you problable allready new. So I can only drive with oil in the summer. I mix the frying oil with diesel. I will be putting 60L of frying oil to 30L of diesel. How is the temp in Australia?? I´ll guess you have warm weather all year. If so you guys can drive on the frying oil all year. This saves alot money but takes time to filter. What do you think of this?? With fuel prices allways to high this is a great idea to save money.

Cheers ;)

I would think 100% frying oil would cause running problems......don't know! I'm into LPG :)

There's been quite a few articles regarding used frying oil with very good results on the older diesels........ No idea if there would be problems with the newer breed of oils burner though. Just make sure it's well filtered.

I thought the trick was to mix it with methanol to stop it solidifying and for better burn!

No problems here and I run neat veg oil in the summer and "bio" in the winter. Bio here is basically filtered and cleaned waste oil and de watered. it has methonol added and as such runs down to -18 C It may go lower but that's been my limit so far ;)
I also run my oil burner with added LPG , goes like stink and smells of chip shop ;)
As said it's fine in old skool direct/indirect injectors BUT don't use it on common rail motors, they will defo get upset :/

There is a dude travelling around Australia using any old oil he can get, might be from Nimbin lol

Met a couple with two young kids at Uluru. They had just come across from Laverton in an old purple & yellow 40 series Toyota running on used frying oil. They had some sort of pre heater which allowed the use of the type of frying oil which solidifies when cold. They were in the Uluru camp ground filtering oil they had managed to get from the Uluru resort.

Apologies for linking to a competitor forum, but this bloke has a fair bit of good practical experience.

Glort knows his stuff.. Be running it for years. Check out his burners to, I'll try get a link.
The pre heaters are a good option, but run off the coolent so you need to start the car and get it hot them flick over. Still save you heaps..
The newer diesels can't run it due to some sorta electrical sensor which detects impurities in the fuel, but our old truck engines will run anything..

I was running 'black diesel' for a bit, refined sump oil and diesel. Ran a 50/50 mix. Didn't notice any impacts, but I noticed a huge noise reduction from the engine..
I stopped due to it being a huge PITA to filter the oil.

Anyway it can be done and it goes well.. A turbo aids aswell as the oil has more energy but needs air to work.
Keep us informed..

I'm too scared to run wmo, as I know what I put in my oil pan when it just goes to the tip.

When I get somewhere I can fence large containers from young children, I would like to give wvo a try.

Most certainly didn't go sump to tank that's for sure. Had magnetic filtration and partial to 0.5 micron..
But bloody messy..

You can just buy SVO from your shops guys ;) Rapeseed oil is the good stuff to use but almost any cooking oil without E900 in it goes bang . No need to filter etc and has beensaid it's so much quieter.
What's cost of diesel out there by the way? Here it's about £1.40 a litre . SVO is about £0.90 a litre and WVO anywhere from zero and all the hassle to about £0.55 filtered to 1.0 micron (but not dried)

Ay yes, drying the oil. Can be a very important step if the oil is miss treated..
And can be a difficult step to to bulk..
Glort and I have been having comp with WO heaters.. He is in front by a long shot..

Check it out...

Heres a Vid of the baby in action going to work on an old alternator I was going to take to scrap.*

I'm half Inclined to take the thing up the wrecking yard when I visit in a couple of weeks and try it on an engine just for chits and giggles. *I reckon I could knock one over in 30 Min without much problem.*

Might have to set it up on some wire to let the ally drip through and catch the steel bits. Might even make an interesting bit of wall art for the workshop.*

This is WVO, and an industrial blower...:D

A good discussion we got here. Last year I mixed 40l of the veg oil to 20l of diesel. It worked good. But next summer I´m going to mix more veg oil to the same amount of diesel and see how that wil go. I´m getting Rapeseed oil from a resturant nearby :)
