Understand that diesels blow a bit of black smoke when being pushed, but my ol girl is blowing a bit too much (black not blue) are injectors serviceable or do I have to replace them?? Can I try tuning the fuel pump?? I thought I read that stuffing with the fuel pump can potentially FUBAR the motor ( spose if you lean it off to much)

When my GQ needed injectors it blew random plumes of ugly black smoke. Was a bit weird. Not like black fuel smoke but inconsistent puffs and running rough under power.

Before I put the turbo on mine blew heaps of black smoke. So much so I was concerned about putting the turbo on! When the turbo was fitted the fuel did not need adjusting but the black smoke was gone.

Reckon you might just need a good tune bud. Even think about putting it on a Dyno for a good setup.

Newby is your man though, I can only give you my own experience bud.

I think his motor is subliminally saying...turbo me growler, turbo!!!

Like that move little shop of horrors..."feed me sucker and feed me now!"

They are serviceable but it's easier to just can an exchange set probably cheaper too. Also your pump could be getting a little tired as you do have a few k's on the ole girl. Unfortunately the only real way to test injectors or your pump is on a bench so generally again it's easier just to get them redone.

G'day Growler,
I've found a lot of short running fouls up the injectors and the fix is a dose of injector cleaner (or possibly some of the more way out additives sometimes used) together with a good long hard run at full operating temps..
If that doesn't clean the exhaust, then go with the above,
regards
Col.

also check the airfilter/intake for any blockages...

Have heard as well a hard run within limits clears out the system.
I'd run some injector cleaner first to see how you go,
