Well - sort of a newbie. I was a member previously, but I got distracted with other toys for a while. Anyway, I have an '02 GU 3 L manual, which I bought new. It has been very reliable and I have had no problems in the 223,000 km I have covered. It is bog standard, although I have recently blocked the EGR and installed a Dawes valve - as insurance. With the prospect of more touring I am setting it up as a camper with a roof-top tent, dual battery, fridge etc. There are only the two of us so I have removed all but the front two seats - there is a LOT of room in these things. Hi. Until we sort out what we need we are just using large plastic tubs - one for food, one for clothes. Having the bedding upstairs makes it so much easier below. The fridge is behind the driver's seat, tubs behind the passenger seat. There's room for the porta-potti too (beers = get-ups). Behind that are more tubs - hardware, stuff for the tent under the camper, spare beer etc. Across the back I have built a permanent kitchen that is all you see when you open the rear doors. One 20 L water tank, gas stove & bottles, storage for cooking stuff etc. There is plenty of access to all the stuff in the back. I am making a partial frame so I can put 4 x 20 L water containers across the floor behind the front seats - for when we go wilderness. The second battery is almost finished; and I am looking for a solar panel to keep it all going.
