Hi,

I've just bought a cheap digital water temperature gauge and wanted to ask some advice as to where to fit the sensor?

The sensor has an NPT 1/ 8 " male thread.

Do I fit it on the inlet or outlet of the radiator? Or somewhere different entirely?

It has a 40 - 120 degree Celsius temperature range with a warning light that comes on at 100 degrees C.

Truck is a 2001 GU TD42T Ute.

Many thanks in advance.

Andy

Put mine on the top hose (out) in one like these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/160905387056?lpid=87

You have to run an earth to this fitting also if it’s an electronic gauge

Megatexture,

Thanks very much for the reply. That's the missing link that I needed. I was wondering how I'd connect a 1/8" NPT threaded sensor into the system and whether I'd have to drill and tap something.

This is a much more elegant solution.

That clears everything up for me.

The gauge and sensor is this one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/310765877084?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I don't collect the car until Tuesday. Do you know if it's the 38mm version that I need to suit my top hose?

Cheers
Andy

I have the almost identical gauge in my car right now, But as my 2.8 doesn't have any options to hook it in, I will need to get myself the same type of fitting. On the 4.2 you could put it into the bleeder at the top of the thermostat housing, If unsure what I mean read this in my thread as we are talking about it at the moment!

not sure mate I wouldn't know what hose diameter a 4.2 will have, personally I'd just wait till you get the car and size it up.
supercheap auto, repco and autobarn stock them so its not like they are hard to get.

Thanks Guys,

I'll check out the thermostat housing for a spare connection and if not I'll drop into Supercheap next time I'm in Perth.

I'll hopefully also be able to post some pictues of the truck.

MudRunner,

I think it's actually an extended ute rather than a cut down wagon.

Will do some further investigation when I get my hands on it tomorrow and post.

Macca,

Thanks for that. Look a much neater installation than cutting the hose.

Will check it out and see if I can do the same.

Macca,

I have the same connection and so am going to try and find the same adaptor as you used. I don't suppose that you can remember the thread size that screws into the thermostat housing?

Or better still where you bought the adaptor?

Many thanks

Its 12.0mm diameter with a pitch of 1.5mmm
Get an adaptor with that on the O/S and 1/8'' NPT for the sensor and you should be sweet.

Working FIFO and being stuck on a remote construction site for the next couple of weeks I managed to score one from ebay.
