Hey guys, I have a 1991 td42 and my odometer hardly ever works for about the first 10 or 15 minutes of driving, then once it starts it's good until I turn the car off again, I have had one apart for and know how they work, just wondering whether people have had the same issue and what it was? I'm thinking it has to be buggered drive gear to the odometer, electric motor shagged or faulty power output from the speedo? Thoughts?

Is it a cable or electric style Speedo?

Mine never used to work on my gq

I pulled it apart and freed up the gears gave it a little lube. Now works perfectly fine

Sounds like some silicon grease might be in order.
If cable moly lube the inner cable or replace inner cable

It's all electrical, speedo works fine, just not the odometer or trip meter, cheers guys, I'll pull it out this arvo and give it a clean and a lube and check for anything obviously wrong, thanks for your help

Sounds like it could be a dry solder joint at the electric motor that turns the odometer gears.

Check all solder joins on the circuit board.
