Anyone seen a 6.5L patrolling? I saw one over the weekend at Hervey Bay, sounded like a beast compared to my 3L

I actually filled up next to one 3-4 weeks back and had a quick chat to the bloke driving it. He said, endless power is awesome, but as a daily driver, you get raped by the fuel bills. And he'd hate to think what it'd be like as a tourer. Very uneconomic. That's his words anyway.
To me it still sounded awesome, and made my poxy little 3L sound like a 2 stroke Victa compared to his.

What would the fuel economy be like? 30L /100ks +

Fuel economy is usually 15-20/100.
I would not own one if someone else paid for it. Really not worth the effort. A common rail duramax v8 would be much better and better again a cummins.

You could buy a brand new Y61 ST and fit that for less than what you can by a new GXL cruiser for and at 15-20l/100km is likely to be more economical!

Each to their own - if you are towing something heavy, then the 3L doesn't cut it, and I was distinctly unimpressed with the power of the 4.2 TD ute that I had previously used. Those who generally do these motors have good reasons and have done their research. They just might have different boxes to check than others who drive 3L trucks, tricked up 4.2's, or LS engines. As I said, each to their own.
Touring I have achieved 13.35litres/100klm (no roof rack), and daily driving around town it is generally in the 14's - 15. Torque in the bush is awesome and the Optimizer is reliable and dependable. Spares are easy to get, and they can be serviced easily at home. Some of the earlier engines had overheating issues, but that was quite some time ago.
Yes, the duramax is a better option, and if the Cummins was a little more available, that too would be a great option.
I for one am stoked with mine. If I was to win the lotto, I might buy a newer truck and stick a Cummins in it, or a Duramax, but the simplicity of the Chev also has benefits and is well suited to my limited mechanical abilities.
Put it this way, I'd never go back now that i have had one.
