Hi everyone,

Wondering if anyone can cast any light on this.

Mine is a 1993 GQ Ti with TB42E and 5-speed manual. There's a hand throttle knob in the usual place, but it doesn't do anything. A visual inspection under the dash reveals that there is a spring on the inside over a wire that connects to the throttle cable.

Does anyone know whether it ought to function, and if so, what the problem might be? Turning the knob seems to activate the spring, but this doesn't seem to manipulate the throttle cable as I imagine it is supposed to? Does this sound like it's been disconnected, or that the spring simply isn't doing it's job.

I imagine that it's quite a useful device for crawling up hills that are bumpy insofar as you needn't worry about the feet on the pedal smoothly if the revs are high enough to "idle" up.

Cheers,
David.

Hi David, have you tried pulling the knob towards you? The mechanism twists to unlock then pull towards the driver to increase engine revs to the desired amount then twist to lock in that position.
That is if it's working correctly.

Hey thanks for the reply. No I haven't tried that, my reading of the Owner's Manual was that turning it built the revs. I'll try twisting and pulling. Do you know what kind of rev range the hand throttle manipulates, say, up to 2500rpm; and also, how far does the throttle come out - does it hang out?

Cheers!

I'm not sure if theres any difference between the carby and efi hand throttles but on the carby model you will pull it out about 50mm. Pull yours out as far as it'll go and see how high the revs go

Yeah your revs should increase as soon as you pull it out, pretty sure you twist it to lock it at the desired speed and position. I can't remember what it will rev to though.
