Hey everyone.

Just thought id pop in here and say HI!

I have finally bought my first 4x4 and its a 1998 Nissan patrol 2.8 turbo diesel ST.

It is stock standard no lifts nothing. So a blank canvas which i was sort of looking for. Its done 203500ks which i think its alright compared to others i looked at.

I have done a service on it over the weekend with oil filter, fuel filter, air filter replaced and oil. Now i am abit worried because the fuel filter had a stamped date on it from 2006. When we tipped the old Diesel out of the filter it was like jelly and grey.

The people i bought it off seemed like the people to just put Diesel in it and drive. So im wondering the other things they neglected to do. e.g injectors etc?

Any info would be great.

Oh also if people know know of some 4x4 tracks between Buladelah and Port mac can you please let me know.

Welcome mate! Nice wheels! Exterior looks in good nick for a '98 4x4. I'm not an expert at all, but everyone on here is very helpful and I'm sure you'll receive top advice.

Maybe it's worth taking your Patrol to a diesel/4x4 expert to do the once over?

Cheers

Welcome aboard statok, good on ya for introducing yourself.

First thing I'd do is run a diesel fuel additive through it, after that tanks gone replace the fuel filter again and check the filter for any of your previously mentioned jelly slime.

Has the timing belt been replaced?
Check condition of rubber fuel hoses for cracks/perished rubber.
Gearbox, transfer case oil change and diff oil, and dyno tune is something I do regardless with a new car.

Check your upper and lower control arm bushes for perishing or damage as well as radius arm bushes, tie rod ends, engine and gearbox mounts and replace if needed.

That's just off the top of my head.

One more thing, check your diff and gearbox breather hoses are attached, in good nick and not blocked.

No problem, had my own fair share of problems with mechanics and mechanical/electrical issues, so I understand the need to find an honest and reliable workshop.

Check out my intro and you will see.

I wish I could help you, in terms of mechanics, though I am in sydney and do not know of any in or around your area.
