http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?15630-GQ-4.2-Dual-battery

the reason to install 2nd alternator as you know it is the simple system that can power all my accesories.... and not affecting the oe system... i'm preparing the GQ for some overland...

my hj 61 also have the 2nd alternator 110amp... n

need all advice or better pic on hw to set it up in GQ and if any issue after set it up..tq

I've got dual alternators on my TD42 GQ, I'll take some photos for you tonight and post them up. It was on the car when I bought it so don't know how it was done or anything.

Not really... I only have a single battery and 260A (120A main alternator and 140A second alternator) of charging is a bit overkill. I'm actually getting rid of that second alternator and swapping with another member to gain a little bit of power and fuel economy back. It's a horses for courses type of thing and the guy I'm swapping with wants to run a 24V winch, I don't run that many accessories so I don't need it at all.

Just my two cents worth, tell me to pull my head in if required. I think running two alternators has hairs on it ( except to run the24volt winch if no other option is available). You lose too many ponies on the mechanical and electrical losses. The circuit expands thus creating more areas to fail. One extra heavy duty alternator should be sufficient to run lots of accessories.

emmm good oipinion... ok what i do in my hj 61 with 24v eletrical system is i install 2nd alternator just to charge my 3rd battery in the cabin. this altenator is 12v altenator and the battery is for all equipmen with 12v system... yes u can configure 24v to supply power for 12v equipment but a bit difficult. everybody know it is a bad and big NO NO NO NO NO.... to tap only from one battery in 24v system to power up 12v equipment.... i hv to power up my reverse camera,,, under carriage camera, my 2 inverter, led, audio system, fridge.... few cig lighter charger, laptop, gps, and so on.... until now i didnt hv any problem with my hj 61... if use the 3rd battery until run out of juice.... while the hj 61 stop or camping... i still can start my car and in no time charge back the 3rd battery...

but whatever please if anyone hv the same idea doing it in GQ...or hv done it before share with me is it still the best idea... or i just upgrade the oe alternator to 120amp... tq

For the adjustable bracket go to a wreckers and see if you can source something similar or whip down to the laser cutter,
Or make a LHS one out of a RHS one, [mirror it]

yes threedogs that is my initial plan but if someone had done it the other way or maybe better way it might give more ideas. since i'm still very new to the GQ i think i should consult sifu's in this forum.

personally, unless you are running some extreme electrical gear (huge winches), I'd say the upgraded standard will be heaps, Generally you'll heat the the winch up and need to give it a break before you run out of juice with the revs up, just get a good dual battery set up and only run accessories like the fridge off the second one, I'd recommend redarc or c-tek

tq so much winnie..... really appreciate it... wintonlad you are right... that is the most simple setup..... but really just want to research more bout this idea...

As they say keep it simple, last thing you want is alternator problems out on the tracks.
I'm with Wintonlad but will follow where you go with this

No problem at all mate. Notice the power steering pump and thermostat holder have been modified.
