Gday,

Just doing the intro thing.

I Have a post in the general mechanical section regarding my impending GU 4 3.0l purchase.

Am looking for any tips on any extrernal hints that may suggest the car is in the preliminary stages of blowing up, as the early models had a slight tendancy to do. I am led to belive that this tendancy has been reduced in the later models.

Car has a good history. 160k, Fesitdous owner full nissan service history (log booked 10k intervals), used to drive to his farm and in the last 4 years only to tow a 2000kg horse float on the weekends for his daugthers. No proper 4x4ing.

Cheers for any helpful tib bits!

Welcome to the forum mate, you should get a better response by asking questions in a different section as a lot of people don't read the intros.

Growler- Thanks mate, finally a logical answer on the topic. I have done a tonne of reading and have come to the same conclusion regarding the dates of issues. People just dont forget and wont let it go.

Will be blockuing teh EGR (as pumping spent gas back into engine is just plain stupid), fitting a larger exahust to reduce EGT and putting a boost warning light for over 18psi. I regard teh rest as only nesscary for the early models.

Will be doing a massive intake air passage clean to remove previous crud build up if any, and she should be apples.

Cheers.

Welcome to the forum.

The old man had a 2004 3L DID manual which he only sold last year. It was as reliable as the 5 GQ 4.2s that we had before and along side it so don't stress too much.

Hey Nexus, Sounds great on paper. My problems at that state were starter motor and fuel pump.
