Hey guys I have done a fair bit of searching and still can't quite find what I'm looking for in terms of looks and what also looks strong enough, I'm a boilermaker and have no issues with bending, notching and welding it all together. Basically I was wondering if anyone on here would be willing to show me some pics of their utes cages so I can get some design inspiration.

Can be factory utes or ute chops, but looking for a few different external cages.

Thanks in advance,
Glenn.

G'day glen,

I don't think any of our members have cages? Maybe but I don't recall seeing one.

If you have a look at the CCDA regs for cages there are a few options assuming you want to cage to CCDA regs (comp ready)

Also I would send you to the MudRhino forum for further info too as they run a Race Team and also many of there members race in Cliffhanger and other events. Plenty of competitive guys over there with good cage setups.

Cheers MR

Ps. Just make sure you come back here ;)

I don't really care about CCDA those bastards change their rules every 5 mins. Tuff Truck has now changed to internal cages as of recently so this year all the competitors re did their exos to comply and next year all their exos are non comlpliant.

I just want one for when I roll my truck, 32NB pipe is plenty strong enough.

I'm going to build an exo for my shorty . I've done some sketches I'll try and find for you.
They seemed to make sense to our UK regs chappie only last month. Any idea why the exo cages will be non compliant ?

They're only non compliant for the Tuff Truck event, they have to be made from seamless tube not NB pipe, that doesn't matter to me though, I'll be using NB pipe.

Some I've seen hug the "a" pillar on the inside then across the top of windscreen'
others I've seen exit through the roof at the "A" pillar and follow the gutter rearwards
depends on the "CARE FACTOR" eh

Brown Davis do a ROPS system for any 4x4 might save a few head aches

It's not going to be much of a headache I don't think, once is see something I like, I have the material already, got it cheap through work and have a speedwerx bender with the die to suit, I'm just stuck on the look of it. It's not that I don't care what it looks like, I don't care about making it CCDA compliant for Tuff Truck because that event doesn't interest me from a competitors point of view. That event is good to go get pissed and watch other people wreck their trucks.

I want the ROPS for my own piece of mind out on the tracks, it will be structurally sound and I am a qualified boilermaker.

Thanks mate.
Well I couldn't find my old sketch so did a quick felt pen one on the scaled drwg pics that were posted.
You get the drift of what I plan. I'll be cutting the back end off mine eventually so that's why there's just one rear diagonal. All external but there will also be an internal cross brace that bolts through the roof to the exo.
The bits that go over the wheel arches (guards) will also legalise my extra wide track as I've got GU axles and big tyres ;)
Front and rear bumpers are off mine and winch bumpers made in bar too. So they'll all join up.
The lower section at the doors will be attached to the chassis by a yet to be worked out cunning design :@ LOL

Thanks makeitfit, I removed my winch bar and will be starting from scratch, also lopped the end of my chassis off for a better departure,
