A pair of them will hold 20kg, so I guess if you had two pairs then you'd get around 40kgs and you'd have one in each corner!

Cheers,
Eric.

I was just chatting to a mate about this the other day.

Something along the lines of this would be good.

With a pulley and boat winder system like this would work ok with it.

Definitely the boat winder is the go, even gear it up if you are lazy...lol

Mate I have done what you are talking about.
I bought a 4000lb ATV winch off eBay for $130.00. It has synthetic rope a snatch block and remote control.
Then bought some 6mm rigging rope as in sail boats.
A assortment of pulleys and guides again from the sail fraternity were sourced.
Then fitted a couple of pieces of pipe I had laying around to support the weight, put a bottom chord brace across my shed as its a modern steel one with no real strength for supporting the load.
Mounted all the bits and pieces with double pulls on the load and winch, hooked it up to an old battery and up she goes.
The winch powers in and out, real important that bit, all up cost me $350.00 I'm guessing and saves my back.
My full length rack is on it now with all my outback equipment. It's all out of the way yet easily accessible. It goes low enough to sit on some saw stools so is easy to pack of find something I need.

Something like this

As mine lives under a deck 4 batton screws and a bit of chain . Free from my shed .its not thst heavy as only lifting one end at a time . I hate leaving it on the car amount of crap that aculmates in the gutters is incredable . Even had mould when I brought it 3564635647

2 of these setup the right size for the 4 corners of your rack would do it easily. Combined with the 12v winch if needed and its Cheap as Chip.

Tried to get some pics with the phone.

The orange rope at each corner with a cam lock strap underneath is there for safety. Take the load off the winch, pulleys and ropes once its up all the way.

I use my air hoist
Load the roof rack on the ground
Day before the trip hoist it up and drive the car under, lower it down and away you go.
When you come home easy to unload quickly also.

That's setup would be fine.. Just swing a spreader rope across the rack so one hook either end. That setup would be easy to lift a alloy or small steel one.. Some sorta winch maybe needed for a heavy duty steel one.. But why not use a hand crank boat winch?? Surly the price of 2m of rope out weights the electric winch and setup??
Nice find
