Hi Guys,
I have had petrol engine patrols for years but have recently purchased a 2010 3.0l diesel. Diesel chips have been around for years and have had their share of controversy concerning value for money and extra engine wear and tear. I am interested in hearing from diesel patrol owners who had chips installed some years ago and how they are finding their engines are running now. I am considering installing a chip but am concerned about long term effects on the engine.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Hadron

For the ZD30 my advice is to replace the original exhaust system first , they are very restrictive . I run the 2 3/4 inch beaudesert exhaust on my 4b and love it . I also have an EGT guage fitted so could see the massive difference it made before and after the change . Get your engine breathing the best it can before tinkering I say , you will find as I did the improved performance of the 4b with exhaust alone you may not want to or need to chip it .

Although I don't have a chip on my current CRD, I had a Dtronic Chip on my 2003 Di Patrol, and it is still going great...... over 220,000 klms now with the chip

There are two different types of "chip" 1/ There one's that increase fuel rail pressure and or pump pressure. These were originally brought out for direct injection engines. 2/ There are one's that plug into the injectors controlled by a electronic module down stream of the "ecu" to alter the timing of opening, closing and duration of opening of the injectors.
I have one of the second type as I believe it doesn't add strain to the engine.

Hi mate you might want to pop over to the intros as well, just something the forum asks of us all.
First as Boots says fit some gauges to monitor any changes, I run a 3" exhaust and race CAT ,with a DP chip set on 5
any higher and it tends to blow black smoke. to get the most out of fitting a chip do it in conjunction with and exhaust upgrade.
Yours being a CR would benefit heaps from the 2.75" Beaudesert exhaust, then block the EGR, a cheap mod
