ARB were under my car today doing a OME suspension install. They did a great job but I digress. They have me a heads up that my Chassis is squashed on both sides above the rear diff bump stops.

No other cracks or splits are visible.
The car is/was stock as a rock when I bought it. 125,000 km DX Wagon. W.T.H Service (avis car rentals) stamped in the service book up to 75,000km then traded in at a toyota dealership then sold to another private owner before me.
The car has a slight pull to the left (gone when driving on the other side of the road) but besides this drives ok.
Questions are -
1. How can the chassis be squashed like this?
2. Stupid question but, Is this really bad?
3. If yes, how can this be fixed and how much?

Wow!!!
That has been Jumped while it was a rental car for sure mate and they landed really hard on the back.
The rear bump stops are hard and don't really compress so they take a big hit. Given you had light weight factory springs it has hit the bump stops Hard.
Check the front bump stops mate, they compress a little and tend to mushroom out when hit hard. There cold be some evidence there.
To fix????? Ghee I am not sure you could mate. Maybe ask a Panel beater to have a quick look and give an opinion. I don't think there is a fix for that though? Maybe a Potapac and try to squeeze it out???
Consider fitting a rear tower brace kit from Superiors as it is also likely that your spring towers are now slightly misaligned too.
Is it really bad? Hmmmmmmm? Don't know mate? Depends who is looking at it? Some Engineers would Write that chassis Off I reckon!!! Not sure you should do that but certainly make every effort to protect that section long term mate.

A guy who used to work for us, built patrols and ran in comps . Over the years he changed several different cars and chassis. I briefly remember talking to him about it once, and he explained that after a while putting the car through all that stress in comps, you can replace everything, but once the chassis is weakened, game over, new chassis.
He mentioned that used to happen, due to the rear being pounded hard all the time. Pretty sure he called it the chassis deflating, as it flattens out.
That was brought up after he recommended the tower supports to me just like mud runner mentioned.

Cheers for the replies guys. Front bump stops look pretty good. Even the rear bump stops look pretty fresh. Likely changes them just before I bought the car.
It's just the rear that's ballooned out.
Looks like ill be speaking with a panel beater to work out if its worth fixing.
Hey MR, the prize was all fitted up today. You guys are the first to see a pic of the latest additions.
ARB deluxe bar, safari snorkel, OME suspension kit and a compressor/hose kit. was going to go for a winch as well but funds didn't allow as I recently fitted a 3" Exhaust.35192

They all pull to the left, so that you don't wander into oncoming traffic...... nothing to worry about .....
