Have got the new Troll and needs wheels. Do I go with alloys or steel? Alloys lighter and look better but steel is stronger and fixable if bent and cheaper. Any ideas?

I just bought a set of steel rims( I think ROH) to go with my new muddies.
And keep the alloys for road tyres as a daily drive.
Makes sense to me to have two sets of wheels. And save the $400 tyres for the bush where I need them.

My troll came on ProComp alloys, but for my 2 spaces, I went steel rims.
Each to their own I guess.

Thanks megomonster but can't afford two sets but was quoted around $120 for ROH steel fitted. Slim pickings where I am.

My point was to go with steel rims.
Much cheaper than alloys. And like you said strong and fixable, and still looks great.

What will the car be used for? If you're going to do a bit of off-roading and can only afford one set then I would go with steel wheels. If its going to be on the black top for most of its life with the occasional off-roading then I'd go with alloys.

Cheers Winnie, it is a daily drive but off as much as possible and with previous record maybe be better off with something that can be bent back in place. Hahaha

Steel rims every time whether off road or touring, Leave your OE mags for around town,
or sell to help fund new rims and tyres, Mickey T 4 rib are a good dual purpose tyre

Scratch an alloy while wheeling you will be dirty on yourself, scratch a steely and its a trophy from a great day out.
ROH Black Trax are solid, rated at 1220kg and come in -13 offset, just right for the Patrol

Thanks Macca, I was gonna go and measure up the offset but you have just done it for me. I will have a beer instead. Cheers

Stock are +10 on my ute so pushing the wheel out 23mm a side with the -13's allowed me to fit 285's without them touching the chassis rails at the rear.
