Howdy all,

I'm looking at a decent trailer hitch lock, a ball type for my caravan.

I've heard too many unfortunate stories lately of people loosing their trailers and caravans.
As I am now leaving my caravan at the front of the house I am a bit worried.

Sooo, what is a good one from your prospective??

I've seen these on eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Trailer-Lock-Coupling-Hitch-Lock-Anti-Theft-with-2-Keys-Brand-New-/181174964248?pt=AU_product_Trailer_Parts&hash=item2a2ede9018&_uhb=1) but they seem a bit cheap and I'm not sure if they are bullet proof.

Anyone have any knowledge on these or others???

Yeah, I'm thinking a chain as well but these look pretty easy. Taking two wheels off is just not an option Roofy...you know I'm lazy...LOL

That's what I use and I reckon it's as good as it gets mate. If they are prepared to cut that off then you will loose your van regardless mate.

i bought a Hitch Helmet (http://www.oceanictrailers.com.au/accessories.php?id=3) in 2008, paid about $80 for it then. Not sure of cirrent prices. I think a different company now produces them. Solid bit of gear & well designed IMO. Reason I bought it was that most can't be used whilst actually towing. This one can.

X 2 with above drop in your local locksmiths they will have chain that wont break ever plus wiz bang padlocks.
Thinking the hitch helmet being cast may just need a decent whack with a hammer to shatter, just a thought

Crime rates in the ACT wouldn't be that high would they? Apart from the crooks on the hill that is!

I'm not sure of it's make up TD, but it is a pretty tough bit of gear. I would be confident that it wouldn't shatter. It's advertised as virtually indestructible & I doubt the cops would use something unlikely to be up to the task.
If you eve get down this way I'll let you wack mine with a hammer. :)

I'm pretty sure I've seen a ball type lock which fits into the hitch, and when locked the internal mechs expand the ball filling the hitch so it can't be removed..
They look like a standard 50mm ball, instead of thread Its the key barrel.
Could also have dreamt it... :what:

Hey Mate, I work for AL-KO.
Google the "AL-KO Universal Coupling Lock"
Tough and more than just a visual deterrent.

What about a padlock using the lock block on your coupling?
