Hey All, I've just purchase a 2007 GU that I pick up in two weeks. A few cosmetic issues the missus has insisted I take care of. I'm not sure what you call it but the large plastic surround/shroud that goes around the radio and stuff ( looks rounded on the side and covers from the bottom console to the dash) need repair. The silver has worn off with a lot of black showing through. Can this be repainted or I'd even be willing to buy a new one if any one knows where to get them.
Many thanks,Dan

You can buy paint specific for this application. I've never used it, but it's used for interior panels/arm rests and so on so I'm assuming it's a durable paint. Can't remember where I saw it, might have been autobarn or bunnings. I wouldn't bother buying a new panel. They will cost you an arm and a leg from nissan.

Bloody Nissan!!! Terrible mate! Mine was the same and I had the dealer repaint it before purchase. The drivers door handle is as bad as before. I saw Mego's 2011 the other day and his drivers door is worst than mine from his leg rubbing against it.
Ridiculous that Nissan did Not put a clear coat over this paint. Not fit for purpose I say!!
You could remove all parts and have them bead blasted and repainted by a pro or repainted it using a proper Plastic paint.

You could try the 3M wrap...like a carbon fiber look. That's what I'm ganna do when mine starts wearing.
I think there is a thread here with some pictures about the stuff.

That's an idea, mine has worn from the car cam cable also my wife has her thumb inprint on the passenger door handle from the Cape trip.
It's a joke to call it paint.

Disgracefull!! A thumb print! Nissan should be embarrassed! The scary thing is that they have been using that paint since late 2004 in the first of the GUIV and 2013 still rolling them out! Fair wear and tear they say! Really!!!!

If painting, after preparation (clean & a very light sand with fine, 320/400 grit paper) use plastic primer. I painted the dash in our bus about 7 years ago & it still looks the same today. I pretty sure I didn't use any special paint, just made sure I primed the plastic with the right stuff first. Came up good.

Check this thread (http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?18908-GU-2007-Silver-Trim-Chips) for the 3m wrap option. Looks cool and has lasted well.
