Hi All,

Just read this article on The Age online about Nissan Patrol recalls.

Nissan Australia wil be recalling 24,700 examples Y61 Patrols built between June 2006 and July 2013 Vehicles will be asked to be returned to dealers for repairs with affected owners to be notified by mail.

It is in relation to the accelerator sensor failing is that the car may not respond to throttle inputs, meaning it could slow down or stop completely, even if the driver's foot is flat to the floor.

I had actually had this issue, I had actually logged this issue with the dealer at the time of service, and they flat out said its not an issue.

I still have that paper where they said its a non issue.

There was a recall on gq's concerning the front brake lines. Mine hadn't been done and as I had just rebuilt the front brakes,
I called nissan and they installed new lines and bled the system for me. Happy days!:)

No matter what is manufactured, if there was a human involved in the process, there will be faults with the unit somewhere.

This is just another example. A fairly serious one sure, but I'm sure that Nissan will rectify it.

Ronin,

I would contact the Nissan Dealer again and ask the question. If they still refuse, get in contact with Nissan Australia http://www.nissan.com.au/Contact-Us

If there is a fault with a unit that the manufacturer has acknowledged, then the resolution of that fault is the responsibility of the manufacturer for the life of the unit in question.

I'm sure they will help you sort it out.

Cheers,

Rob

What are the defects?
Nissan has identified that due to lateral load on the accelerator pedal, the contact pressure of the sensor brush to a terminal on the circuit board of the subject sensor may deteriorate. As a result, the engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will illuminate, and the vehicle could go into the fail-safe mode which would cause the accelerator operation control to limit vehicle acceleration.

In extreme cases when the engine is idling or the vehicle is coming to a halt, air intake may become insufficient and the engine may stop running.
What are the hazards?
A sudden loss or reduction in power may pose a hazard to the vehicle occupants and other road users.

Mine is in the first listed range, and sounds like what I had already.
So it would be interesting to see if the change it again.
But I guess the dealer will and get paid through corporate Nissan.
