View Full Version : The crazy mod idea thread

I get crazy mod ideas all the time that I want to share and also get flamed by the members for my stupid thoughts... Lol

Idea number 1....

I'm struggling to find a suitable spot for my 12v oven. What about taking the glove box out and putting the oven under there..hot food right at your drivers seat...oh yeah!!!

The width is spot on. It will stick out about 100mm...

Passenger leg room issue???

Who cares I'm always in the drivers seat...lmao

Why not, the glove box is wasted space in my GQ, I never use it.

Wonder what the dimensions are for a cappuccino machine

Where is the aircond thermo stat mounted - would a hot unit affect it?

Also you would need space around it to stop for heat. poor passenger if they lean against the hot box.

Im thinking about mounting a 7 inch touch screen on the roof near the rear view mirror - using and running a laptop else where - I want to run OZI Explorer and happen to have a 10inch lappy.

I got the travel buddy and it doesn't radiate much heat at all. The vents are at the front too.

So is this thread going to be a sort of Pimp My Ride? In that case, all the GUrly owners could fit 15" screens under the body so they can watch "How to recover a GU" vids as they dig them out.

Yeah good idea Andy! Or just sit it on Leah's lap? haha. It's really the only down side to the big mumma. I would say take out one back seat and make a platform and have it facing the door but no good for your future situation.

Maybe a good mod would be to insatll a stainless tank in the engine bay and run some 1/8 copper flex pip around the exhaust to heat water. Have a small pipe running into the cbin and a tap so you can make a cuppa on the run? If you worked out pressure ratings and had a release valve you could even adapt a coffee group head to make a good cup of joe.

You could run another Alternator via the Tail shaft, something like that
Its turning so IMO has a lot of potential

@ Sonof,,,,, Ben Dark did similar using radiator water through a copper coil inside a pot,
Drove the Nullabor and his Stew was a throw away, didn't even get warm.
Silver foil and rest them on the exhaust manifolds works Okish

Well I had a better look at it....Crap idea...lol.....Height won't fit, will stick out more than 100mm, will restrict leg room on passenger too much.

Yes Winnie, I need to build the box around the fridge, I just can't be bothered...lol

Especially with the baby 2 on the way and the Simpson trip will throw all my plans out the window with 2 x child seats needed.

It would have to be fully sealed and a water cooled or it wouldn't last long if it was just standard. But good idea, wonder how it would go in reverse ?

Am interested to see how this turns out as I have one as well (at the minister's request). does a good job and very little outside heat coming from it.

Whack in a pie 45mins before you stop and all good :)

Looking at putting mine possibly in the back strapp on top of the drawers near the fridge

What made you think of the bonnet as an alternative spot from the usual roof rack and rear bar?

I wouldn't. I have been in a car with one of these, and you loose more visibility than you would think. On road it is fine. Off road where you are craning your neck to see exactly where that hole your wheel is about to fall into is, it's a pita!

I have seen some mounted on front of the bulbar, but I'm not sure about the legalities with it. I would think it would be like fishing rod holders and not allowed due to sharp edges/protruding pieces

Cheers

Yes one thing I was concerned about was legality with the height of it. I remember seeing a thread about scoops and what's legal..
Ill have a play and take some shots. I'm a tall fella but I do see your thoughts mate..

I've never liked big bulky things hanging off the roof rack, and bull was just a no go.. Cops would have field day.. Lol
I was thinking about it for a while then I saw a jeep running it around town and thought that's not to bad..

For those that have a reversing camera, or a fancy screen in their patrol. Why not mounta camera underneath you car that shows you the 2 front wheels. You can switching on at any time, and see the track underneath your car.

Cheers
