View Full Version : Shower idea, do you think it will work?

I need to shower sometimes when there are none. So today I bought 1.5 m length of 100mm. Added a shower rose and tap into the end. And I am planning to fit a tubeless tyre valve into the filler cap. The idea is put my cordless compressor onto the valve. Turn on charge a bit and leave running. My idea is the air will give me some pressure. Painted black to warm water. Do you think it will work?

Top idea.. Temp may be an issue.. If you can mount it close to the body while setup in full Sun you may get a warm shower, but I would expect steamy water..
You'll be surprised at how little pressure you will need to empty that tube of water.
I'd fit a water saver head restricted further again.. 9L/min is heaps for Bush, and would give you maybe 3 mins of shower from that tube??

But again, clever..

Yeah it's a do the job shower. No shortage of sun in the top end. Too hot may be an issue. Thinking quick wet. Soap up. Rinse off. Just an idea but ill report later how it worked. :)

Will be on roof rack. Fitting in a min. Another pic coming. As I'm off bush again for the week. Plenty of clean creeks to refill with a jug. :) just measured and holds 15L.

Good idea mate, like it. Could also add a buzzer to warn water is low, time to rinse off :)

Any idea how many mm a valve hole is? Plan to drill tonight if I can work that out and call into tyre shop on way in morning and instal valve. Wife reckons I should add a quick rerelease air fitting and have the rose on a hose. Not a bad idea!

The air you pump in will go up obviously so you might need to park nose up a bit to be able to use all available water

Drill as per the above and buy that size valve I guess.

Yeah thanks. Have mounted the front of tube higher than back for that. May need mods. But plan "a" so far. $48 so far. :)

If that doesn't work what I have is a stainless bucket to heat the water in and a submersible bilge pump hooked to the shower head through a marine starter button in the end cap of a PVC pipe, can send a pic if you like, it's cheap and works fine.

I'll let you know once I put the valve in. Have to so something as work 14+ hr days remote. Only to find the other day where I'm dropping the swag has now shower. Had spent the day sweating like I was on death row. Not happy.

I have a cordless compressor that you can at the cut off psi to. Thinking if I set to set to 30. It's a safety net. Remember making spud guns as a kid that I'm sure had more than 30 in and were far more rural than this piece of art. :)

Aa yes. Wrapping that tennis ball once to many times had some nasty side affects.. Lol..
Keep us informed though..

Mate great concept, you can get cheap regulators from eBay then can set at 5 psi or whatever. 15litres gives you 5 man showers easy if you turn it on and off like you said.

BigRAWesty

What's an average mains pressure??
I would aim for half that.. Other wise you might just get a dribble... Lol

macca
23rd September 2013, 07:31 AM
Westy mains is about 100psi. My 12volt shower has a 35psi pressure switch to turn pump off if rose is off. When showering the pump is on of course so the pressure has to be less than 35psi.
Those regulators go from zero to whatever is applied to them very handy gadgets
Here is an idea what I mean

You may be surprised how little pressure it takes to blow the plastic bits apart. You may need a pressure relief valve to be safe.

Yeah you wouldn't fill it with air off the compressor as a air tank that's for sure. Wouldn't be surprised if it was around 10 - 15psi is ample for the shower to work fine.

@ Kallen rafa is in Darwin, you can fry eggs on paint tin lids up there.
No problem getting the thing hot, Malcolm Douglas did a similar thing for warm water

Pressurized 4x4 water tanks only require 2-5psi

Wouldnt rafa want a bit of cold water at the end of the day, not hot? ?

I know what you mean. Usually finish work around 8-9 so my theory is the hot hot water should have cooled to nice warm shower. Need a bit of warmth to bubble up and get the crap off.

After a hard days work a nice hot shower is the only way.. Paired with a nice cold beer.. If you haven't tried drinking a cold beer in the shower, do try it..

On one now. But zero alcohol. Grog restrictions all over NT. This still has the same mental effect though. Zero sugar too so healthy. Spose I better have another one seeing as it's a health drink ;)

In alice springs december I would fill a 20 ltr bucket and strsp it to the roofracks and at 8pm it was still 46 degrees for doing the dishes and that was a white bucket but being yours is stretched out may cool faster

Having lived and travelled much of the Territory a cold beer
after getting rid of the sweaty dust via a warm/hot shower is heaven,
You can get the stink out but not the red dust we all love,

Bit warm. But unreal. Two lesson learned.

1. Make the outlet at the bottom to get all the water.

2. Park nose up hill. To get all water.

All in all happy. And now clean.

In current form. 2.45secs. So not one to dwell in. But turning off to lather, fetch new beer etc. it does the job.

Marty. ;)

We have a 24litreshower tank in Mactrol and we got 4 adults and 3 kids out of that.
Keep working on it you are on to something......

Plumb from bottom of tube, and tilt in the roof rack, if you can get the nose up even better..
Did you use 90 or 100 vox?

100.

Thinking of adding pressure relief valve set 5-6 psi. Then plumbing the air down inside. Even thinking about adding one of those timer taps like you see in dunnies that you press in. Then the water comes out for 30 secs. All just thoughts. But the relief valve is a definite.

Always good to have a project.
