Would like to do an ALL FLUID change to get a good starting point for our new car.
any thoughts on oil for a 4500 with 200,000km?

Thanks!

Any good brand of 10/40 motor oil is fine for the 4500. I use castrol when it's cheap.

For the diff and boxes wait til super cheap or repco have a special on. Repco did a 30% off sale last weekend. Much cheaper than paying normal retail. Just be mindful of avoiding GL5 oils, you want GL4.

I run 20w50 in my 4.5, 10w40 is a bit thin IMO. 80w90 in the front diff and rear if its got the factory locker, 85w140 if the rear has an lsd. The gearbox and transfercase take full synthetic 75w and the auto trans takes Dextron 3

I found 10/40 suitable for the hot weather up here. Nothing wrong using the 20/50 though.

Understanding how oil works you should be using thicker oil because the thinner stuff is meant for use in colder climates. The 10/40 is usually semi synthetic so unless you are doing 10,000km servicing and live in an area that see's below 0 temperatures you could be doing more damage rather then good. When i get a chance i will post a pic of the recommended oil grades for the 4.5.
