hey guys, i'm new to the forum. I have a GQ RX 2.8td that blows a load of smoke and runs rough on cold starts. I have changed the glow plugs and removed the short buzzbar (afterglow). any help would be appreciated.

FFS threedogs he is doing the right thing, he posted in the intros and was told he would get a better response if he posts in the correct forum. But I suppose you got your +1 post count so you got what you wanted.
Dan are you getting power to the glow plugs? I had an issue with my 4.2 and it turned out to be the glow plug relay, the contacts were worn out and for a while must have only been getting a small amount of power through because it was smokey and rough upon start up, then eventually would not start at all. I replaced the glow plugs and of course still would not start, with some help from a member here we worked out that the relay contacts were broken, replaced that and has been sweet since. When we did our snow trip one of the mornings it did blow a bit of smoke and splutter a bit but it was so bloody cold... should have glowed the plugs a couple of times.

I don't think it is. If he was genuinely concerned that it was a duplicate thread he would have PMd a mod, or better yet report the thread.

G'day Dan. I had a similar problem when I first got my RD28T and I changed out the glow plugs and the air filter as well. This did make a difference.
I would suggest having the injectors done and not forget that this issue can also be caused by bad rings or a combination of all of the above.
Cheers,
Rob

thanks guys. I think i'l try the relay next as I did get one when I bought the glowplugs. a mate of mine thinks my injectors are leaking so I will get that looked at aswell.
