Just had a call from the mechanic the young blokes zd30 has been loosing a bit of water and shakes relly bad on cold start up mechanic just told me the heads gone say he is looking at $4500-5000.00 to replace it and price may even go up from there depending on whats found when the head comes offf does this sound reasonable never had a head go before

Werribee nissan just came in at $6000.00 extra if it needs timing belt etc

Bloody hell, you can buy a brand new crate motor for around 6k....

Well for 6000 the zd30 is going we have decided fark it for about the same money and an unknown amount of slabs a gen 3 is a far better option :)

For sure.. Most blokes say a conversion chews the 10g mark once certified.
As mug gecko said a zd30 crate motor is around those dollars. Then no cert needed just the rego papers changed to show the engine change..

Sorry guys been busy with work thanks for the replies the ls1 conversion is something he has always wanted to do so nothing I say can change his mind all adapter kits have been bought already will post pics etc when he gets it underway

If you used Marks adapters you'll find they fit great and awesome aftersales service.
Which fly wheel are you going to use??

3dogs everything is being sorced from marks including the flywheel wiring loom is about to sent off to a mate that combines the them into one sump is comming from the states its actually cheaper to import a modified sump (apparently the modified one from marks needs to be modified more ?) the has already spoken with an engineer in regards to whats needed for compliance ls1 (ss motor) is sitting there ready to be checked over and only thing missing at the momment is the fuel pump
Winnie reckon you will be right about it being awesome he already has me thinking about converting the 2.8 to the twin turbo chev motor (i want to stay diesel)
