You lose a bit of power from using gas unless you have gas research system or sequential injection.
you either tune it to gas or petrol, its one or the other.
with more power you'll probably have worse economy too.
what is your main use touring or weekend stuff, is it a daily driver ??
I would suggest you get a dyno to see what they can get out of your Patrol

There's probably a few simple things that might be worth checking first.
Is your gas system in good order, ie; all hoses tight.
Are there any obvious vacuum lines that have come off.
Is it a carby model? If so are your points, rotor button, rotor cap, coil, leads and plugs in good condition? It might be worth cleaning the points, rotor button and cap.
How old are the spark plugs and are they suited for gas? Standard plugs are: BP5ES. Cold type: BP6ES, BP7ES. Hot type: BP4ES.
Do you know what the timing is set to? For gas it should be set considerably higher than petrol. Around 18 degrees advanced (maybe higher) for gas.
So start by making sure everything is in good working order first.
There is also the option to buy an electronic ignition and after market coil set up to give a bit more go.(search Pertronix ignitor on this forum).

Electrics need to be spot on ,plugs ,leads etc for gas to run well.
Try fitting "Y; instead of "TEEs" greatly improves water flow, and less chance of water cavitating at TEEs
