Well the same mate who went out and bought a Sierra because he thought it would be good (and sold it 3 weeks later after putting a new motor in and realising it was still crap) is now shopping for either a Troopy or a bloody 60 series! There is just no helping some people!

Look at the positives mate, you'll always have someone to practice your recoveries on...not a total loss.
Otherwise disown him as a mate and tell him his a bonehead!
EDIT: has he driven the 747

I know this is isn't condoned on here but if he is really set on a yota and those are his picks, there really is only one way to go. He needs to be only looking for a factory turbo diesel (12ht) in the 60 series.
Come on Winnie use those powers the vb has given you and twist his arm get him into a patrol. Has he been for a drive in yours? Maybe this would change his mind.

Asking him if he likes fixing CV's every 2nd weekend...... and likes being bounced around with a a soft spot for leaf springs (pardon the pun) been there with Toyotas and there is no way I could do it again... unless it was a Prado , he he!!

I told him that if his heart is set on a Toyota, for gods sake go with an 80!
Krisso I already have a mate with a 60 which we recover all night long, don't need another!
Matty he doesn't want a diesel unless he can find one really cheap, only has 5k to spend and it will be a weekend car. Hmm he hasn't been in mine since it got juiced up, and never been offroad in it. I think a day trip is in order.

Get technical with him....... Bigger diffs, the best lsd in the market, bullet proof drivetrain, COILS, proven reliability, TOUGHER...... the list goes on, you know the drill.
My brother got a troopy and the few times he came to visit i out drove him everywhere without even trying. My mate just bought a hilux even after i banged on about a patrol being way better offroad for months (fair enough he wanted a dual cab ute). But now everytime we go out driving he struggles to get anywhere and when i say things like; "ya wont get up there" or "ill go first so i can pull you through", he gets angry at me!!?? But the thing is its all true and im not lying!! lol. So he has reverted to that age old hilux drivers techique of just hitting everything flat out and bouncing half way up and then having 20 more tries! lol
Theres just no helping some people.
What ive told my mate is that i didnt get a patrol then become biased, I became biased while researching which 4wd to get and went for the best:)

Regardless of engine type, troopies are BY FAR THE WORST OFFROAD VEHICLE EVER MADE BY TOYOTA. Even with vast amounts of suspension work they still dont grip at all, anywhere. Great for touring out of but absolutely sh!t in any slippery stuff, hilly stuff, tight stuff.......
My bro has one with 35" mudders that i out drive on 33"s
His mate has one with dual lockers, 33s, all brand new lift (about $3000 worth) and i still out drive that. Cant even get up a wet grass slope!!

Yes but you see he is an apprentice mechanic and he knows everything and I know nothing? If you know what I mean haha. Look at 95% of comp trucks and they are all GQs. 4% are GUs and the other 1% is full of Patrol parts =]

Im surprized, i like suzuki's, maybe he just had a bad one, i think if i didn't need the room (no family), or want the comfort (less old), especially after seeing Patrols (dual locked) and Hiluxes go through something and struggle (or not make it), then watching a sierra drive it very easy , i think id own a sierra in a heartbeat.
Agree, if you must go Toyota, a 80 series would also be my pick :049:

But imagine trying to fit all your gear in the back of it? And it would not be very comfortable. Would be a weapon for day trips though.

How much gear do you have? Lol. It's one of those things you learn to make do, we just get spoilt with patrols and being able to fit so much in

The frustrating thing is I have been driven around in the GQ by well setup Zooks in the hands of experienced drivers Many Many times. Ask Lights in the Vendors section! They are Weapons without peers.
The real argument for your mate to get his head around is simple. COILS or Leaves. Comparing a 60 or troops to a GQ is just Wrong. Compare them to the MK.
Troopys fall over all the time because of the high roof and stiff rear that does not flex well. I spent a few years in PNG where every second car was a Troopys and the rest were leaf Cab 75s. Great cars but you'd get in a Troopys and alway have a look at the A pillar for roll over damage. So many had it.
Coils mate! It's all about Coils.

Ha-ha Yes ,thats a good way to describe it , i drove a small track in my troll, then did the same track 5 mins later in a 6 month old Jimny, it was quite bone shaking compared to the troll, i also drove a Sierra from brisbane to sydney and back, that was not what id describe as "comfortable", i did the same trip in a vitara, it was a fair bit better on the back.
Id still love to own a zuke as a fun toy , that and VW manx, and a dirt bike, but i can't afford them all, so a Patrol is a great all rounder.

He is a spastic and thinks that leaves are better than coils because they are "simple"
I suppose simple things amuse simple minds..... lmao!

My mate has one and while it goes anywhere you be more comfortable riding on the bull bar. Hence why he wants to sell it. Eventually.
