got all nads done for quite a while now and all is good. but just thinking does a catch can stop 100% of oil mist going back to air flow sensor. or should the sensor be removed and cleaned on a regular basis.

Good question, I've only had my catch can on for 2500km, but I never had that much oil in the intercooler when I upgraded it with 12500km on the clock.

Agree 100%. When I clean my MAF with a spray can, I put it on a piece of tissue paper so I can see how much oil comes off. Before the catch can I always had a bit of oil on the tissue - now there is none that I can detect.

Howdy I know this is slightly off the maf topic but thought important ! I had an issue last week which lead me to checking all my hoses maf and Dawes etc in doing so I pulled apart my Dawes and sat ball bearing on a table it rolled across the table and left a fine black line Although it looked clean to the eye ... So I feel the Dawes is something I will also be cleaning every 6 months or so ... FYI it's been in place for approx 15 mths I do tow a 2.5t caravan and find I get a lot more oil from catch can when doing so....

so are all different brands of catch cans alike or do some do a better job than others. they would all do the the same principle I would think. how would you know? mine is custom made by taipan exhaust.

I use the provent 200 with a filter in it to catch any particals that may happen to form

I think the 2 things have to achieve for a good catch can is a good filter and that the inlet and outlets are at least the same size as the factory hose any smaller causes restriction in the motor

The can / hoses should not restrict crank case pressure release - otherwise you will blow oil out of your dip stick hole.

Inside the can of the provent with a screw top

so what I have is most likely a average can without filter. is this fine as long as I clean maf occasionally.

If you are going to the trouble of fitting a can - fit a decent one. Some of the ones the speed shops (and Supernotsocheap and Autobarn etc) sell are a requirement for track cars and are not really designed for what we are trying to do with Patrols. They don't even have a filter in them. The Provent type are not that expensive.

but what about the 4wders that have got basic cans that went out and purchased cans thinking they are preventing a problem. their cans must help surely.

They probably stop a certain amount of mist
and look pretty but if you look up ynots post
on catch cans he recomends the provent as
the best but like every thing in this world
its an individual choice,i looked at those typeof cans
and i didnt think much of them

I installed my greddy catch can last week, very clean, took off the intake pipe's and no oil.
Mann & Hummel provent catch can twice the price but they were out of stock :(
Best price you've seen on the provent 200?
