Hi all, my name is Sean and I live near Springfield in SE/Qld, I am a diesel fitter by trade but have been off the spanners for 5yrs. I currently have a 2006 Hyundai Terracan CRDI, that to it's credit has served it's purpose. I am looking at options for next wagon, have always liked the GU Patrols because of size, looks and availability of accessories.
Looking at low km 2007/8 3L CRD autos. ST or ST-L, will be using for occasional light towing trailer/ campervan and touring.
I have spent quite a few hour browsing posts (thankyou) of possible mechanical issues that are more common and experienced by more than a few.
My main concern remains to be the uncertainty regarding the ZD30 (even with CRD) reliability, started reading a link to a post "granade" which led to another regarding engine mods to prevent failures, when a window appeared saying I need to post a min of 25 posts before viewing, could I ask if this document details mods and things to carryout or be aware of or is it a just a workshop manual.
Can other informative links relating to increasing engine reliability be suggested. Also any issues that have occured after install the DPChip product.
At this stage the Patrol is on the top of the list, but I would like to be more up on the ZD30.
We have 2 close friends that have GU Patrols who I would like to bring up to speed as well.
Thanks

Welcome to th forum Seanem
Wise choice going with the CRD mate, most of the bugs have been ironed out and yes the Ref Doc is not a manual but a great doc with reference to all mods, common issue, fault codes, etc, etc.
Can't help you with DPchip but I have just recently installed a NoLimit Chip($130 from eBay) and so far am happy with it, smoother acceleration, more responsive and a 1.5l/100km saving on fuel so far

Apart from the Auto that is exactly the vehicle I have and the purposes I use it for altho we do heaps of touring... even down to the DP Chip.
This is my fourth Patrol... MQ, 2 GQ's and now an MY07 CRD. Love it to death, and my only "wish" is that it was an auto. Ignore the grenade "stuff". That is yesterdays news as in years ago and does not apply to the CRD's.
If you get one that is under 3 years old and less than 100,000 K's then you can extend teh FULL Nissan Factory warranty for another 3 years and 100,000 for a measly $1400
IMHO The performance/engine "mods" that are helpful are...
Catch Can (legal and OK with warranty)
EGR block (illegal and careful with engine warranty)
Chip (careful with engine warranty)
Bigger exhaust (legal and OK with warranty)
and maybe Dawes/Needle valves... I haven't done that yet and have no issues with boost so still unsure
There are a heap of other things but they are the best 4 IMHO
If you do ANYTHING to the donk grab a scan gauge and an EGT gauge. Indeed I reckon put them on it anyway but absolutely must haves when adding performance.

Good advice thanks ET!

Welcome Sean, enjoy the forum mate and I agree with The Evil Twin, as I used to own a 2007 CRD GU...........Nissan stopped producing the ST-L in 2006 from memory.
