Hi Everyone, I'm Merlin from Perth and have joined this forum for the first time, although I am new to 4WDing and very inexperienced I am considering buying a serious 4WD to do some traveling around in. I am considering a Patrol 2006 GU IV DX and was interested in feedback from people who know and love their Patrols. I cant wait to get out on the tracks but want a safe reliable vehicle that a tomboy like me can manage. So any constructive feedback on the pros and cons would be appreciated. Thanks.

welcome mate, great forum and info to be found here.can't go wrong with a Nissan and the one your thinking of should be capable enough to drag you into the outback and back into civilization.

I'm keen to learn all about the tips and tricks without getting too caught up in all the lights and buttons. Looking for a vehicle that is factory standard, I didn't want to buy one all tricked up and thrashed by a previous owner. What are your thoughts Guru?

HA guru that's what they give me not what I am..head over to the main page and find the general Nissan chat, you'll find heaps of info on the GU's,i have an old gq that has no electrics and half the time I mean tail lights or headlights aswell.
Nothing wrong with a 2006 gu that I know off.heaps of others will point you in the right direction soon enough they must still be opening there beers, tis Friday arvo ya know,..lol

Hi Cluck, Once I get my Patrol organized I plan to sign up for a course and give the Powerlines a shot. I was around Gungin Gully and saw a huge hill that had CHALLENGE written all over it. One day hill, one day soon....

Hi Merlin and welcome to the forum. I own a 2006 GU series IV Patrol and love it. Only minor difference is it has a 6.5l Chev V8 instead of the 3.0.

It's my 3rd patrol and 2nd GU. I have driven most other vehicles and always come back to the Patrol because of reliability and dependability. They may not be perfect but come bloody close. please bear in mind I am biased.... Look forward to see what you get.

Eureka do a pretty good course...... In fact they do a sand only day course up in Wilbinga I believe. A one day bush course which is up and around the top part of the Powerlines. Or they do the 2 day course which combines both bush and sand.............. Well worth the cash I reckon, especially if you've never driven off Road before. You'll be taught some very handy tops and techniques
