Hey buddy, welcome aboard the trol express.
Great bunch of people with plenty of experiences & knowledge to share.
Personally I like the GUs, but many out there will have their own views.
As for a 4x4 club in Melbourne, check out this link below.

Hi Mate,

welcome to the forum,

With your price range you should find a heap of early model GUs in 4.5 petrol, no problem at all. You might also consider a GQ with heaps of accessories as a good buy to. If you want to get the family involved and they are not real keen now then a GU is more likely to get them interested being a bit nicer inside.

Keep an eye out, there will be something about for sure.

Enjoy.

hi and welcome to the club.

I'm in Melbourne too and if your interested in a bit of offroading, I've had my GQ for a couple of months and I'm looking for people to go offroading in Lerderderg park or around Melbourne. Let me know if you are interested.

G'day mate - welcome aboard. (sorry for the copy and paste introduction, but been away for over a week and a lot of catching up to do!!! LOL). As you've no doubt noticed, heaps of useful information, great people and a good laugh to be had on the forum so make the most of it and get amongst the conversations. Don't forget to throw a few happy snaps of the rig up in the members ride section - we never get bored of looking at them!!!

For that sort of dollars mate, you should be able to pick up a rock solid unit!!

Hi Roofy i am on hunting process for nearly 1.5 month for an st patrol 1998-2000 but without succeed i need the car for replace my old mq l2.8 old but in good order and clean car, the main use is for work,i look for a clean, and well kept car with low km,(between 150- 200000 depend of model,i exclude the 3l diesel and i don't sure about the 2.8 diesel) and if possible with some extra.
all the car i seen until now there were some good price with shine body and shit engine some look like a shower underneath or other again with nice shine body and plenty of extras and to many km on the clock engine very dry but again to many km more than 300000.
also the people want that you pay the extra they been put on the patrol,a good st from that age the value is between 12 to 14000$ and i don't like to pay 10000$ just for the extras i hope you understand whats i mean.
