Like them or not you have to admire the workmanship that goes into them to get them to this standard.
Here's a $70K Comaro my mates brother won as a door prize recently

I'm a ute man,, Used to have a 68 xt falcon ute disc brake front end and an auto which was rare, $400 them were the days
Plans were to fit a 302 and make a GT look a like polar white with the red stripe, even found a Fairmont to get interior out of.
But was into motorbikes for years only now I need a project

Moving to the coast killed our Fairmont. The bottom hinge on the passenger door rusted out. I parked the car in the shed as a future project, but rats got in through the rust hole then ate the interior out. The engine had only done 50000 miles since the rebuild. Heartbroken, I sold the wreck for $650.

:icon_bonk:My first car was a toss up between a 1974 HJ sedan (Stock as a rock) which was sitting next to an XB Cobra. Yes it was original, and both of them were going for $2500.00 (Big dollars back then) I chose the HJ.......:icon_bonk: my father said it was a more responsible purchase.....

You are just waiting for a real Patroller's cuddle aren't you!!! Good luck to him. He has shown some forethought. You couldn't give the flaming things away at one stage. It was very hard to get parts for the XW. Most retailers had XY parts in stock. Now Rare spares have heaps.

Lol. I had one of them, also a Sandman Panel van. Dropped a 350 in it and then sold it to a mate in QLD where it just rusted away...And to think back then I had a chance to swap it plus a few k for a HG Brougham and I knocked it back.
XB Coupe is the only Ford I really liked. The Shelby is nice don't get me wrong but it doesn't do a lot for me. My old dream car is the 1978 Pontiac Firebird, just like in Cannon Ball run. Also the Lamborghini Countach from that era. With the two girls in those ever so tight suits they wear. Yum Yum.

Shelby Cobra Mustang, he says it flippin flys

G'day folks,

For the die hard fans that remembered the original Gone in sixty seconds! I thought i would take the opportunity to post up the following info for your enjoyment!

Regards,

RLI

"California based automobile scrap-dealer H.B. "Toby" Halicki created, wrote, and directed the Gone in 60 Seconds (1974). He also trademarked the terms "Gone in 60 Seconds" and "Eleanor".

Two "Eleanors" were created for use in the movie: one was heavily modified and used for stunt driving; the other was used in the external "beauty shots" and for hanging cameras on for shots of Toby behind the wheel or external driver point of view footage. All the Mustangs (none were Mach 1s, as many people believe) were bought new in 1971, but as it was three years before Halicki could raise sufficient funds to start filming, all three Mustangs were modified to resemble 1973 model year cars.

The heavily modified car required 250 hours of labor before it was ready for the cameras. It was fitted with a NASCAR roll cage, and the transmission was chained in. An adjustable camera was mounted in the back seat to record from the internal “driver's point of view”. Other safety modifications included a heavy duty double strength Simpson shoulder harness and seat belt and deadbolt door locks.

The main car survived, despite two serious incidents during filming. The first occurred when another driver overshot his mark, clipped "Eleanor" in the rear, careened into a steel light pole standard in excess of 100 mph, and caved the left front fender in. After two hours of repairs, filming resumed. The second occurred after an impressive 128-foot jump in which the car soared over 30 feet. “Eleanor” survived, despite the rough landing. Halicki was injured in both incidents.

According to people on the set, Halicki missed a mark and caused Eleanor to hit a real telephone pole at 100 mph. The first thing Halicki was quoted as saying when he regained consciousness was, "Did we get coverage?"

Halicki compacted ten vertebrae performing the "big jump" in the Mustang at the end of the movie, which reached 30 feet high and cleared 128 feet. Fortunately, the injury was not serious, although according to director of photography Jack Vacek, Halicki never walked the same again.

On August 20, 1989, while filming Gone In 60 Seconds 2 in Dunkirk and Buffalo, New York, Toby was preparing for the most dramatic stunt sequence in the film, during which a 160ft tall (49m) water tower was supposed to topple to the ground. When a cable attached to the tower snapped unexpectedly, it sheared off a telephone pole, which fell on Halicki, killing him instantly. The movie was never finished.

Sorry George,
A correction......the 924 was powered by a 2.0L Audi donk. The 944 was a fully Porsche engineered motor and was basically half the V8 from a 928.
And as far as the series IV RX7, it was the one that mimicked the design of the 924......given the Porsche was released in 1976 2 years before the series 1 and more than a decade before the series IV RX.....
I am quite a Porsche enthusiast and actually rate the 944, particularly the later versions but even the early ones are a superbly balanced drive....
For the record the 924 was in fact a lemon but it was a different car to the 944 even if it shared some basic elements.

Tip tip tip......tap tap tap....
