gday all, my ute an 05 4.2tdi has developed a high pitch constant whine noise that happens when its warm, it hasnt changed in performance at all! and the turbo whistle is the same! you can hear it most when its stopped and ideling!
ive got a 3" exhaust with no mufflers so you can hear it easily at the tip!
the turbo has been wound up a bit, blocked egr, removed intercooler butterfly and fitter a provent catch can!
any thoughts?
thanks denis

Have you just done all the mods and can now hear it or has it been getting worse over time. How long have you had the mods done.
How many kms are on it?

the ute has done 210 thousand!
i remember readin somethin about installing a catch can, that the turbo needs the oil as lubrication or somthin? im not sure i could be imagining it!

G'day mate,
Higher pressure resulting in quicker spool-up can give that effect. Check your hose's, especially if the whine starts when you come on boost (ie boost leak!)
Slightly damaged compressor blades can also cause a whine or worn bearing.

Denis,
Is it Turbo whine, or is it a leaking EGR?
The 4.2 had a habit of cracking the EGR Pipe.....

I would check this first. I have completely removed mine from the car and bloke the ports on each manifold.
You can fit a catch can the oil in the intake isn't a good thing and your turbo is lubricated at the core.
