Can anyone explain when it is best needed to fit a separate tranny oil cooler, working situations etc. My vehicle is mainly a TUG pulling and pushing boats, would I benefit from this, as at present mine cools through the factory radiator?

From the title I was going to write "when doing allot of Towing". From what you say you use yours for there would be benefit.
If you use it where it is up and down gears allot and under load then just like brakes and water, Transmissions need to cool or they stop work efficiently and get hotter.

I used to get the TRANMISSION warning light on my old NF pajero - while towing. I fitted a after market cooler inline with the radiator cooler - no more warning light.
