It is possible the more expensive gas has a higher percentage of propane which would help explain the better economy. Auto gas is a mixture of gasses with propane and butane accounting for about 95% of the volume.

X2 with YNOT...

There is a difference between the city and country mixes with some brands as propane is sent to the country areas because it can be used for other purposes than just Autogas which 60/40 Propane Butane mix cannot. Supposedly this is one of the reasons country LPG jumps in price. The expensive outlet may be supplying higher ratio propane Autogas

The suppliers also fiddle with the propane butane ratios between winter and summer as well with higher amounts of propane in winter I think

BP had a good blurb on it on a website a while back but I can't find it now... Google using keywords like Autogas, Propane, Ratio, Mix, Variation, etc etc... theer is some interesting reading in amongst a lot of the pony poo.
