Hello everybody. I found this site by chance when browsing the net. I have owned 3 Nissan Patrols during my life a G60, a MQ 2.8 petrol and currently a 99
GU Y61. Each of these vehicles has been fantastic and presented very little in R and M costs. Now that I am in my 60s I will keep my GU to end of days. But with the GU having 324,000 klms I reckon she is due some love and care. The engine is a TB45 and is in good condition. Gearbox, clutch and wheel bearings have been serviced but are original. My question is where should I start? Thank you all Marmon007

Welcome mate, surely the best forum on the net. If you need it, you can get it, if you want to know it, just ask it.
If you want to find it, go to the search bar for a universe of information.
Enjoy the sights and sounds of the greatest show on earth.

Welcome mate.. Great history you have had with patrols.. Plenty of info here and friendly knowledge here to match.

As for TLC...? I wouldn't worry about the drive line.. They will easily see half a million plus k's...
But are you asking about mods or servicing.. We can easily spend money on mods...
Cheers

Welcome Marmon,

If your truck is getting regularly serviced by a mechanic, a good one will let you know beforehand of any potential issues. I would ask anyway for piece of mind at the next service.

As for major components, if they are well serviced and cared for, you can usually get long life out of them, as you already have with your GU at 320,000 klms.

You know the vehicle well by the sounds of it, and most major components don't just fail with no warning - you will normally hear something or sense a vibration. Let your feel be your guide where the mechanic can't help you, and jump on any potential problems early to minimize costs....

Hello threedogs....... My friends call me Beau and I am from
wagga Wagga NSW. I love Patrols and believe they are the best of the 4x4s available on the Aussie market. I will start my quest by replacing the rear wheel bearings and seals, but the variance in pricing of parts is bewildering. From $70 to 240 a side with labour from 95 to 155 per hour, average of quotes from 647 to 910.

what is your experience, Thanks marmon007

Hi Westy... thanks for that. I am a self funded retiree and with the interest rates as they are I do have to watch my pennies. I have been lucky with my patrols over the years and with the amount of boat towing I havedone most of my friends are amazed that I still have the original gearbox and clutch. I tow solely in 4th gear and only use 5th off a hill. In saying that I realise that I have created a degree of my own luck or good management. I feel that at my age to refurbish the vehicle will be cheaper than changing over to a new one. Cheers Beau.

Hi Dhuck....... I don't know what a Marmon sounds like.. When I had my Marmon it was powered by a 3406E Cat at 600hp. It purrrrrrrrred. Cheers Marmon007 to my friends Beau.
