Hey guys new to the forum and love my patrol.

I'm 22 and picked the old Gq up a year ago for $1500 with a seized TD.
Rebuilt the donk myself I'm not a mechanic but I've been building motors since I knew what a spanner was. Came with an old TJM bar and Warn high mount winch. Also it had 2 new desert duelers on it so to save some coin I just bought 2 of those not the toughest looking tires and only 31s they still have got me everywhere I've wanted to go.

Fitted a snorkel and a 3" lift kit courtesy of suspension stuff
Recently picked up an ally roof rack for $100

Other than that's she's fairly stock I've got plans to turbo but at the moment it's just my daily commuter and weekend fun bus.
Hope to share my mods and journeys here

Well done mate, good effort. Putting turbo on is a pretty easy job if you have gone this far mate.

Have a read of Tony's and myself DIY post below about it...

Yea the mechanics of the turbo upgrade are pretty simple and with any queries this forum quickly clears up any questions my biggest problem on the turbo upgrade is making the decision as to what's going to work best for me and what the budget is. Haha apart from the daily drive and weekend tourer I also have a speedway car and she will be towing an open air trailer so I'm leaning towards 18g and Gu pump but its just budgeting.

Meanwhile here's some happy snaps of the Q

Nice rig. Simple yet versatile. If your looking for a small power gain until the turbo comes along look at tweaking the pump a little.. Get a little more bang juice in it and it makes a difference..
Great pics BTW, where was that snow one taken to?

Snow one is falls creek. After making the mistake of not getting alpine diesel (too excited to stop in mt beauty) we dug the truck out from a 65cm weekend then got it started only to have it suck dry and block the fuel up. In the end I got it running nothing over 800rpm and drove down the mountain in neutral by the time we got halfway down the diesel had normalized and I could rev the engine freely at the bottom I filled up with alpine diesel to get rid of any left over waxed up diesel

Moral of the story. No matter how excited you are for a powder weekend always fill up with alpine diesel haha

So gave the truck a service this weekend along with a new temp gauge since the stock one decided to stop working. But now she's all ready for the trip back up the high country next weekend.

So got back from a week of snowboarding got a few little tracks in and had some fun missed 2 landslides by a matter of hours one on the bogong high plains rd and to falls creek and one on the alpine way on the way to thredbo. Pictures attached are of a creek crossing at Tom groggin start of the Murray and some little trails outside of Jindabyne. One things for sure il defiantly be heading back to the high country in summer such a great place. Sorry for the lack of snaps.

Yesterday after servicing the big jigga and putting about 1/5th of a turn of fuel into the pump over its standard setting. It's running sweet. But after going for a bit of a drive yesterday I got stuck and went to use my winch put after plugging the controller in i hit forwards on the switch it made a quick fizz and now Dosnt work sounded like a short of some kind but I can't find a fuse or anything after pulling the cover off the relays they were a bit dusty and covered in cobwebs I don't really know where to start. It's a Warn high mount. Pretty old but has been used by myself before and the previous owner who's a family friend had used it twice in the 15 years he owned the car. If anyone has any advice on where to start would be great.

Pretty old looking winch. At least it was a quick fizz. Did the sound come from the switch or the winch itself?

The fizz was that quick it was hard to pin point I'm guessing it was one of the relays fried itself or shorted. Hoping that because its a warn I might be able to get replacement relays because the winch itself though its old is pretty bullet proof

Surprised I didn't notice it handling like a pig I guess I have HD springs its not to ba or maybe now iv taken it out it will be worse..... Oh well

Hahaha these are the rears so now I'm running no swaybars at all after taking it for a whip around thisarvo you can notice it tends to roll over a lot more when cornering but I think if I can get another I will put it back in just because its my tow car as well I don't want it handling like the titanic haha

How do you find the ride with the heavy duty springs? What about the flex? I'm running the same springs by the looks of it, and I do find the ride a little harsh, then again mine is pretty light on at the moment.

Loaded up its ohk. I have a speedway trailer I plan to tow so I went for the HD as I didn't want it to sag out or have to put airbags in there. I find with a bit of weight it's more comfortable but still flexes fine with an empty car.

Not much to update on the truck got a bit of a trip in last weekend see trip thread for some photos. But the old girls running like a dream it wanders a bit on the highway without swaybars but nothing crazy il be organizing my linkage replacement this week I think. Also discovered my 2 rear lower control arms are bent. So I should probably look at replacing them but for now they don't appear to be causing any drama.

Anyways here's a recent photo of the old girl still sporting 31s can't fault the old desert dueler it's a shame they don't make them in a 33. Yea I know BFG is pretty well the same and I am still trying to decide what to get for my next set.

Spoilt for choice iv come down to these options for 33s

-bfg At
- bighorn 762 or 764
-mtz
- 4 block atz

In 33s all good tyres but its just hard making my mind up haha

Yes but you scrub a little bit over speed bumps and tyre ruts on the tracks. But if you take it easy you won't do any damage.

Quick update haven't had much time to play with the old Q of late but since I'm on holidays I better update this thread.

Scored some seats for free off a friend and fitted them with minimal mods I think they are just super heap racing seats all that was needed to fit was a piece of 25x25 rhs on the outside rail and a hole drilled in the inside rail to suit.

Also fitted my rear working lights. And have since discovered my pump leaking. After degreasing and finding the leak it appears to be leaking around the rear of the pump not sure if I should bother trying to fix it or just fork out the $1500 for a reco'd pump...... Any opinions would be great happy new year everyone.

Ordered my reconditioned injector pump today from the guys at MTQ. Hopefully have it Friday as they had no reconditioned units on the shelf ready to go.

In the mean time did a little flex test with the truck this its a 3" mates rates kit from SS with heavy duty king springs and No sway bars probably could have gone up another inch or 2 with the forklift then the rear wheel was off the deck and a little drive i went on at cape Jervis

Haven't updated this page in awhile but basically now running a Kinugawa 18g6 on a MSR manifold 3" mild steel exhaust. 12.5psi and top mount cooler with a zd30 air box and 4" snorkel. Also bolted some 33" maxxis AT980s (Bfg all terrain tread)

Did the conversion myself in the week I had off over Christmas and done about 15000ks on it since only drama Iv had was using the wrong exhaust manifold gaskets (carbon not stainless) and it blew out ports 1 and 6. Cut in between the ports on the MSR manifold and faced it and haven't had a problem since that was about 7-10000ks ago loving it.

Next upgrades will probably be some new LCAs and ADJ panhards

As for your winch check out Winnies thread on the re build of his 4728 Warn.
You can buy a bigger motor pretty cheap.
