Hey guys. My 04 4.2L patrol's fuel gauge has seemed to have stopped working, it's stuck on about 2/3's full, my subtank is working fine, the gauge moves up and down, if anyone has an idea of what could be wrong or if they could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Steve

It could be the sender unit out of the tank.
Can you reach the plug to disconnect on the ute without dropping the tank?

Yeah I can reach the plug without dropping the tank, should I do so?

The Sender Unit is a variable resistor, which usually starts from low resistance at full to high resistance at empty.
The gauge on the dash reads this information, via the change in current due to the changing resistance.
The most common problems are the sender unit loses contact with the resistor circuit due to wear / bumping up and down all the time, or the Gauge in the Instrument Cluster develops a bad ( dry ) solder joint.
I haven't tried this, cause I have never had a problem, but I think this is what should happen......
I would try disconnecting the plug to see if the gauge moves at all, and of the gauge moves to the empty or full position this could indicate that the problem is in the sender unit, and the tank needs to be dropped or tray removed to get the unit out of the tank to see what has gone wrong and if it is fixable.
If the gauge doesn't move, it could indicate that the problem is in the dash itself ( i.e dry solder joint )
I hope that this helps.
