Hi folks,

I'm in need of some advice on a company car.

We are getting rid of the 2001 ZD30 and some other cars as we are getting smashed with FBT!

I'm looking for a ute but our budget is only around 8k....Really can't go past 8k so it has to be an older ute.

Trying to keep it in the Nissan family maybe, so looking at older Navara's.

Are there any older Navaras I should steer clear of?

Does anyone have a suggestion on any other models for a good, reliable ute for around 8k. Prefer diesel, in fact....Must be diesel.

Appreciate any advice!!!

My mate just bought a BA Falcon Ute RTV. It has raised suspension and a diff lock. Bloody good Ute, he paid 8k for it but you can't get them in diesel and it's not a Nissan!

Got sick of Motorculture so gone back to Tappa

I read when they came out the rear diff locks are not really locked

I'm not really sure but I think they're a vacuum lock like in the patrols.

That's the next step I think. 8k is not much and I am trying to convince them to get a GQ TD42 ute....They said "It's a bit old, might get some mechanical problems, etc".....How dare they...lol

They are a proper locker vacuum operated as Winnie suggested, made by Macnamara I believe.

The article I read said that they wouldn't take the fraud or the holden cross 8 anywhere that your life depended on their traction systems getting you outta the poop

Single cab, dual cab, space cab?
2WD or 4WD?

D21 Navara was OK and available with TD27 (TD42 minus 2 cylinders) diesel, bit of a slug without a turbo.
D22 Navara (early) had QD32 (bored out TD27) diesel, also a slug without a turbo.

Outside the Nissan family the TF Rodeo is a good car. 2.8TD was very economical and reliabillity.

Dual cab 4wd would be good mate but they are expensive, so either one of those options would suit. Just needs to be reliable and not gutless. I remember driving an old Navara non turbo and they were awfully sluggy.

I'd be looking at TF ('97 - '03) Rodeo, they're in your price range in 4WD dual cab diesel configuration, very reliable, and being factory turbo will perform much better than the N/A Navaras.

I'm not finding anything I like mate or anything for 8k that would be acceptable.

I have the gu on car sales and had zero phone calls as well which is great. The rwc runs out in 2 weeks too.

It's a 2001 gu zd30, 271k with passenger airbag. My boss wants 14k, I said dreaming....

It's forums like these that educate potential buyers...lol
