View Full Version : Should my front driveshaft be completely 'free' in 2wd?

Just wondering if the front driveshaft should be able to be turned around completely when in 2wd and in Nuetral? I get just under 180 degree rotation out of it and am unsure if this is correct/normal.

All help appreciated.

No that is correct, if. You have auto hubs then they think you have engaged 4wd ;)

Sorry Mudrunner....does this mean that the hubs are stuffed at all? and are driving the front wheels too? - I have a set of manual free wheelers of a gq but can't track down the step spacer rings. Obviously i probably won't put em' on if they don't need to be swapped our. Ta mate'.

No the hubs are working perfectly.

You can buy the step ring from Patrol-a-part, straight off their web side ;)

Your front drive shaft is connected to your transfer case and does not spin under normal driving. It sits idle. When you engage the transfer case the front shaft spins the front diff which spins the front auto hubs and waalaa ! Hubs locked, your in 4wd! By trying to spin your front shaft by hand your front hubs think you are in 4wd and will try and engage ;)
