The cost of this photo 32507. $250 fuel, $50 food, One spigot bearing, one thrust bearing, maybe gear box and clutch, One 24 year marriage (when the bill comes in!!!) and 1 mechanic's wages for a day or two. Went to Mount Cole this weekend, and towed a small 600 kilogram trailer from Chinamans camp over the mountains to another, less populated one. After we had set up camp, we went back up the mountain, minus the trailer. (Fantastic place). This morning, with the trailer in tow, we travelled a few, unexpectedly steeper tracks, which we had to use low range. As we drove on, apart from the normal loud whining, which resembles a 45 international truck, nothing untoward seemed to be happening to the Old Trol. But, after we had reached Chinamans, and took it out of 4H and unlocked the hubs, a very noticeable whining noise was still there. Stationary, in neutral it was gone, but with the clutch in, there was a rumbly whine. On the highway, the noise was in all gears, but worse in 3rd. I think we have done both the spigot bearing and the thrust bearing. I have only recently changed the oil out and replaced it with the "correct" Nulon product. And second gear started to catch and grind when cold. Any thoughts on how much I am looking at to cover the worst case scenario?
