Hey people, I have a gq coil ute and since iv owned it when i go offroad usually only on real soft sand i will be driving straight and every now and then there will be a horrible clunk/knock from the drivers side wheel (feel it through my steering wheel and clearly hear it).
I have replaced in the last few weeks all suspension, all bushes (nolathane), trailing arms, wheel bearings, swivel hubs, drained the diff oil and put new shit in, I know its not a cv as i had a look and thats fine and it only does it going straight. Today i took it on the beach for the first time since all the work and it did it again which absolute sucks as i was hoping the work done would fix it (mechanic mate that did alot of the work checked everything while all apart and said everything was fine).
Only does it when the hubs are locked, i had a similar problem with my old troopy which ended up being the hub its self so im gona chuck a new hub in tomorow and see if that fixes it but it has me and a few others stumped to what it could be and i have a few big trips planned soon.
Could it be a loose cab mount possibly? any other suggestions welcome as its frustrating the hell out of me

Check exhaust not hitting tail shaft,
Don't mention the "Troopy" I did once

Its great if you can get them up on a hoist, Grab a long screw driver and try and move bushes etc

Check your body mounts. They will make a clunking sound if they haven't been changed since the car was built.

Check body mounts as previously stated, failing that check that the is no elongation of the holes on the radius arm diff mount, in particular the front hole, this would make a knock, also check the mushroom bush on the radius arm chassis mount for movement.
I noticed your bought nolathane bushes..... You just wasted your money, they are junk.....genuine nissan bushes only. No one has come close to the longevity and quality of the factory bush.

X2 with Benny. Re tension your body mounts as the do compress over time, and also 're torque your radius arm bolts.
While your at your radius arm bolts check for elongation on the hole, a ruler will do. They should be a snug 16mm. 17mm would be My max. Unfortunately the mount is non replaceable and if they are flogged out you will need to get weld on washers put on and New.longer bolts. To fix properly that is..

Went and saw a VERY knowledgable patrol nut, and we have narrowed it down unfortunately to the chain in the transfercase is slipping teeth
However he said it wont snap and just "deal" with the knock however i will be looking to get a new chain soonish

I had a ford courier once and this is a common problem with them, try and do it sooner rather than later as it will be wearing the cogs as it skips over them.

Cheers

Get a mate to jump on the bull bar while your under it to compress the suspension.
FEEL AND LISTEN for the knock..
I'm the TD, to have the chain go is very possible but very, very, very rare..
I'd explore other avenues first before.you go pulling transfer cases.
MudNut has his diff diagnosed as stuffed by a good mechanic, 2 diffs later no change..

ye fair call mate.
As i said iv replaced alot lately had it stripped back to bare diff drained oil put new oil in etc ripped hub off again yesterday to look, and its obviously 4wd related as only does it in soft sand so considering all the new parts and the cvs being fine (not a cv sound anyway) the transfer case makes sense? highly doubt it's the diff
