Hey fellow patrollites,

I'm looking for some sort of isolator I can put inline on my winch power cable so its all hooked up but am able to cut the power to it when not needed.

as an example something like this

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HEAVY-DUTY-BATTERY-CUTOFF-SWITCH-SPEEDWAY-WINGLESS-SPRINT-/261250605587?pt=AU_Sport_Motor_Racing_Merchandise&hash=item3cd3bfe213&_uhb=1

or

Don't want to always have to be hooking onto the battery and off all the time.

Cheers,
Eric.

He Eric,

The problem with those in the supply side of the winch is that a winch can drag upto 400amps for a short time and they may not be up to the task.

Much much easier it to put the isolation switch to the switching side of the Solenoid. Are to running a solid state solenoid like a Titan solenoid or a solenoid pack mounted to the winch?

The switching circuit to the solenoid pack is low voltage and easy to isolate.

Cheers MR

Sorry just looked at the second one and it is rated to 500amps so would be fine. It would be sime if your running the solenoid pack. As mentioned though if you have a solid state solenoid then the switching circuit is the go.

I am thinking of running a hot wire across to the second battery to isolate to dual battery solenoid and hook ip both batteries for winching and might grab one of that second link. Cheers

Mate honestly no idea about solenoids, Its an older warn winch, Runs a main cable to the box then 3 wires come off it to the motor, and an earth etc....

Also knew they pull a heap of power, think this one pulls about 220 under no load from what I read somewhere.....

Here's one rated to 1000amps for 10 seconds

It's cheaper and easier to put a switch in the switching side earth wire.
