Hi blokes,

Whenever I start my car with the headlights on (hid's) the left one cuts out and I have to switch the lights off and back on again.

If I start the car up and then turn on lights it's all good.

No biggie but just curious why this happens and if there is an easy fix?

Rodney if you see this, it's the gq not the gu so separate problem. We're selling the gu and that issue never popped up again...lol

My old falcons hids did that. 1 day it just didnt come back on at all. It was a faulty ballast from memory.

Yeah I thought it was the ballast but no idea if there is a fix or not.

In fact I think it's being doing it since new...lol

lol If its a cheap ebay thing, it wouldnt surprise me. i put good ones from america in it after the ballast blew, never had any troubles with them. If you want to replace, spend the little bit extra, you wont be sorry

I'm guessing its a result of voltage drop on start up which makes me think if I even put a relay on there. I'm sure I did!

Ditch the HIDs!

That will fix it.

AB.....What is it with you and headlights.

I also think it more then likely a ballast problem.

Try swapping the passenger side ballast with the driver side one.

If you are keen to diagnose the problem you need to measure the voltage (positive and negative at the ballast) during cranking and engine running.

It could be a voltage drop in the HID wiring to the ballast.

Swapping the ballast over is an easy first test.

Is it one of Micks kits?

The HID's give great light, but they never seem to be trouble free .... they must be really good to be worth it.

Each to their own.

Standard lights also cause numerous problems.

I know everything can stop working, but all the guys I know that were running HID's are now all back to +50 Halogens and the like, as they got sick of fiddling all the time with them.

Disclaimer: They could have been cheapo kits, as I never asked the boys how much they cost .....

It's like any mod. Do the research and buy the best quality you can afford.
