Hi all
I'm new to the forum, and I've just had my zd30 bomb it's self! So I'm sourcing the info and parts for td42t conversion! I'm going to retain the auto box. Also I will be upgrading to a larger turbo and top mount intercooler, my aim is for around 150kw? I'm thinking of a jap import td42t from gu with low ks! Has any body heard much about the import motor are they any good? Also can somebody recommend a turbo set that could achieve 150kw and at what boost I would need to run to reach that power? Does anybody have the link to the thread for a zd30 to td42t conversion? By the way great forum, so much info and so many patrol enthusiast out there too! Many thanks if anybody could be of help:)

There is a member on here who has used the ZD30 auto with a TD42, "pattywagon" I think his username is. Also patrolapart have also done it and should be able to help you out. You might get away with the ZD T/C and flex plate as I know they use the same Clutch in the manual version, that's only a might.

There a plenty of combinations to get to your goal. A good option would be a UFI 16g Large or a Garrett GTX2863. You will need a 11mm pump at a minimum and a good quality intercooler setup.

How reliable are the td42t putting out 150kw? Considering you have a good intercooler setup and three inch exhaust! The jap import motor I was looking at was from Brisbane imports, low ks apparently under 100,000?? They said everything to do engine conversion was included $7900? Engine out of gu from Japan? Does that mean they are 24 volt? Would I only need to swap to 12volt alternator? Has anybody used a jap import motor? Also how hard to transfer to a manual, does it all swap over pretty easy? Thanks for any help

Properly tuned a 150kw (at the flywheel) TD42t will still be extremely reliable, factory turbo TD42 has stronger internals than naturally aspirated so is well up to the task.
As far as I'm aware all Safari's (what the Japs call Patrols) are 24 volt. As long as the engine has a straight mechanical injector pump (factory intercooled TD42Ti had electronically controlled injector pump) you should only need to replace the fuel cut solenoid with a 12 volt unit.
Converting your vehicle to manual can be done using factory parts but there is a bit of work involved, pedal box needs to be changed, clutch master cylinder, and hydraulic line, and booster fitted, bolt in floor panel around gear levers changed, console trim changed etc.

Sorry guys.
I'm not going to maintain two threads with the same info?
Makes more sense to keep everything in one place.
And I don't get over here as often.

Hi I am a UK owner of a 2007 ZD30 'grenade' and have recently acquired a Jap import Safari with the TD42T unit (140000 km). Am considering switching the TD42T into the Patrol. Can you send me a link to the other forum for details.

I have sold that car now but this should help.

Please note the jap td42 is most likely 24v not 12v so you will either need a converter or to source 12v parts like starter and alternator etc.

I put a GQ TD42T jap import motor in my ute and it was 24v, 12v cut off solenoids are easy to find mtq has them in stock so should most other injector pump specialists , alternators are every where and you will need to replace the tac reader/pulse generator on the timing cover but you may find someone to tune your tac to the pulse generator already on the motor. Mine was a TD42 to TD42T so it was easy for me. Enjoy
