Put Tyson in the passenger side
Give them no reason to steal it, leave nothing on the seats etc

Hook it up to the mains at night so they get a boot if they try and break in :).

Nothin on the seats. Funny you should say that.

Nah he's not happy at all as just had his mate put down . So Ty is by himself until Billy gets a bit bigger
and can hold his own, Tyson has a very quick wick.
Could always put a fuel cut off switch in

I had a fuel cut out switch with the carby, and found it just had enough fuel to get the Trol onto the highway. I unhooked it because it endangered my family, if we forgot it was switched on. I will be fitting a flashing light in the dash to warn the driver it is on and the engine will soon die.

Other than what you have already done

- Change the original door locks and make sure you have a tight rubber seal between the door and body

- GPS Live tracking....one that sends you an SMS message when it has been stolen

To help prevent break ins for valuables

- Change the original door locks and make sure you have a tight rubber seal between the door and body

- If your stereo has a detachable face always remove it

- Try and conceal UFH or move it to a location that is more hidden from view and always remove aerial

- Make sure you weld the nuts or have security bolts on spot lights

- Security lock nut on rims and spare

- Remove towball as they have a habit of going missing

- Tools............Keep to a bare minimum for everyday driving etc and only put all your tools in when you're out wheeling or on a long trip

- Recovery gear.......Same as above

What do you mean by changing the locks?
How does that affect their ability to break in.......I'm hoping they don't have a key and if I change the locks I can't get in! LOL
Seriously, what would I change the locks to? I would have thought most thieves would break a window or pop up a lock with a bit of packing tape....

Tip tip tip......tap tap tap....

Change them to something like this, from a quick read this kit doesn't do the ignition barrel but i'm sure a good locksmith could find something similar that would do all doors and ignition

http://www.getprice.com.au/Nissan-Patrol-GQ-MQ-Solex-anti-theft-door-locks-Gpnc_642--78328564.htm

Or even replacing old for new door locks might help: http://www.carsrus.com.au/gq-patrol-ignition-barrel-rear-barn-front-door-locks.html

You will never stop a thief from smashing a window and car alarms don't do much these days, I did mention good tight rubbers to help prevent popping locks with packing tape.

Also they might not have your key to get in but when your barrel on the door and ignition wears any GQ key may open and start your car easly.

My key opened and stared my mates GQ without trying too hard and open my Dads GQ also but couldn't start it.

I still have faith in a "decent" car alarm, if its installed by the right person and you add the right goodies .

Hi Steve,

Can you please elaborate on what you class as a decent car alarm

An alarm that has a siren does would do jack all in the my neck of the woods where I grew up and I don't think anyone would pay attention 2 one around here either

I think a small amount of c4 shaped charge full of nails under the drivers seat with a remote detonator.

as Ive just said in Sharen's thread, no immobilzer or alarm will stop someone from taking your car or floggin stuff from it if they really want it. ................. I like the South African way of thinking - Flame throwers and electrocution.

But maybe for my budget.... a couple of wheel clamps.

This is the brand i run in my cars ( i have older version ) ........ http://www.vipersecurity.com.au/

As with car audio, installation is also a key factor, i can't go into details of what i do on my own cars (for security reasons) but a good installer can wire your alarm so its not located or mounted in the usual location.

In my last car i had 3 sirens, the normal one , a "talking" warn away (if you get to close to the side of the car), and one very loud siren was "inside" the car.

Good alarms can be set to kill the starter, fuel supply (use a solenoid if not EFI) and IGN, plus other custom functions you may have, a theif has to find and by-pass all these to drive your car away.

You can purchase many additional modules to customise your alarm, these will set off the alarm if its jacked up to steal your wheels, spot lights are undone, any winow glass is broken, car is hit when parked, they can also put your electric windows up on arming (so you cant leave a window down by mistake) ....the list of possible functions goes on.

I understand that people can become unresponsive to alarm noise these days, many car alarms can page the alarm key remote, and so alert the owner to tampering (even if you are over a kilometer away), and when many times cars are stolen from a place where the owner is very close (home or a friends), in this situation, the owner will hear the alarm (or get paged) and so can respond at their descretion.

Im not pretending a alarm will guarentee your car wont get stolen, but it may deter a thief, and will certainly slow one down more than if you dont have one, at the end of the day, if they want your car they will have it, stealing your keys or hijacking it while you are in it (you can also have anti hijacking function as well BTW)

my anti hijack function is usually a gun but its getting harder to carry it around without getting into trouble, probably more trouble than the hijacker gets into for doin the hijack in the first place!!
