RooDogs in Campbellfield have a lot of goodies. Have used them a bit. As mentioned TJM in Coburg, ARB in Thomastown but it's ARB, I try not to shop there. Up the road from ARB towards Keon Park is another 4by place, Mc 4x4 or something. I wasn't overly impressed with the guys attitude, must have worked at ARB to get it, he never looked at me once while I was in there. He had his head jammed in the newspaper the whole time I was there and not once raised his head. SO they quickly went on my Do Not Return register....Atleast the guy at Roodogs walked around the shop with me and helped me out. 4x4 Obsession would be the go maybe. Never been to his shop but if MR says he's good, then he is. Bit of a drive though.
Theres also a workshop on Grimshaw street in Bundoora, 4x4 Solutions. Great people but a while back I asked him about better recovery points for my GU. He didn't see what was wrong with the standard OEM hook under the bar and then offered me even lighter OEM hooks from Toymota's I could cut and shut to use. Like I said, great people with great intentions but that put me off.
Then there's Turbo Engineering in Settlement Rd Thomastown for workshop work. ONLY go there if you want to experience arrogance and an empty pocket. But, he know his chit. Johnsons Performance centre in Thomastown also for workshop stuff and dyno tuning. Great bloke, known him for a long time. A while back he was dyno'ing a TB48 they had just turbo'd and IC'd. They managed to get 400 horses out the back wheels on this thing. He does a lot of comp trucks there....
Also Guest 4WD in Fairfield, bought a few things off them, Rob is good to deal with.
Muffler Magic in Clements Ave Bundoora got me an awesome deal on a 3inch Redback zorst. Easy bloke to deal with. I went to him one time as I wanted to get two bungs welded in my IC pipe. He couldn't do it at the time so he rang and even took me around to another guy in the same street to get it done. Very helpful he was.
Can't think of anyone else.

That Mudski bloke!!! He knows People!!
Yeah well working in the spare parts industry for 18 years helps, plus I like to go into a lot of places myself to see what the people are like who runs these places. If someone is rude or rubs my feathers the wrong way I never return...
But I must go and see Brett from 4x4 Obsession as I am almost 100percent sure I met him at my cousin's kid's first birthday party in Gisborne, he was introduced as Brett. I didn't know it was him at the time but I had seen his face before and my cousin said he owns a 4x4 shop, and his shop is in Melton. So I'm assuming its him.

That's the problem there: poor attitude lose customers and they wonder why they go broke and blame anything bar themselves!

I found the boys in Guest4x4 in Fairfield good. Only brought a few things but friendly and helpful.

It's a family business started around 1970 +/- and a neat and tidy shop.

They are also the manufacturer of Black Widow drawers - we use them in our work vehiles.
