I've just hit a brick wall with this guys. This could be a dead unit. But I'm not going to give up until confirming this. Hope I explain this properly.

Ok here is the deal:
- Swapping my cassette/radio/cd deck for a newer (2010 onwards) CD/usb/bluetooth (Image 2).
- First thing I noticed there is a extra plug (Image 3) that has no place to plug into on the newer unit, but you can clearly see it plugged into the old unit (Image 1)
- Next thing I noticed is, different antenna connection. Harness has a 2 prong (IMage 5 and 6) with what seems like, negative/ground on the outside of it. Newer unit takes a smaller plug with 1 prong (image 4).

The troubles:
- Unit doesn't power on.
- Turning on lights, lights up the radio as it should. Taking the key out of ignition, the little red key on the top of new unit is flashing slowly, this is normal too.
- Pressing / holding the power button does nothing (this is why I think this may be dead)
- I used to have the same unit in my D22. When I took it out and put it back in, it wouldnt' power on. The reason it didn't power in is, I didn't have the antenna plugged in, the antenna seems to be the grounding/return.
- Remembering that, I ran a small lugged wire from a small screw next to the newer unit's antenna socket, to the ground (chassis). Still didn't work.
- I'm getting 12V from red power wire to the ground, so power is there.

Could the problem be the fact that antenna is NOT plugged in all the way AND/OR whatever the other small connector was ???

There are multiple threads on this already. Search is your friend on here.

1 buy an Aerpro plug and play harness
2 buy an aftermarket aerial adapter

Plug in matching plugs and then into to unit, plug in aerial adapter and plug into unit

All done and should cost you no more the $50

Never underestimate the power of the Tap.

Adapter from what to what though ? This is a Nissan unit swapped for another Nissan unit. Adapter that came with the newer unit fits perfectly into the existing car harness except the harness has that other smaller plug with 3 wires that fit nowhere on the new unit. There is no pins left over on the unit to attach any wiring to. Its this plug I'm questioning whether for whatever reason its stopping the unit from turning on.
Antenna adapter I can get to try and will see how that goes.

Just got the antenna adapter since that is the main ground for the radio, and it still wouldn't turn on, so i'll put this down as a dead unit.

Open it up and see if there is a hard wired fuse or something in there that could be blown... You got nothing to lose.

Hi Hodge, sorry I don't know anything about your model stereo.

What model Nissan did the new stereo come out of?

Do you have volume controls on the steering wheel???? maybe the one your installing doesn't have that feature.

Have you had a look at the GU manual to see if the wiring diagram tells u what the plug is????

The new model came out of a 2010 ST and mine is a 2009. My model is JUST before they swapped the radio units for the newer one I have. So difference is a matter of months.

I found that the new unit I put in (pioneer..and not a factory supplied unit though for nissan )...it did the same as yours i think...it was powered up but no sound etc...it turned out to be that I had a amplifier which was under the drivers seat...i had to bridge the power wire in the plug and play connections to get it working....the replacement unit you have may not be dead but just have smnething to do with any amplifiers that may have been involved in either car...(maybe one had an amplifier and one didnt )...

Cheers menace. Good point about the amps, my car though is stock as rock, so i doubt it's got any amps within it to my knowledge. This shows signs of life by means of the little red lock key on top, and when i turn lights on, it turns them on the unit too. But the unit its self does not turn on. The bloke i got it off is happy to have it back and give refund. I'm gonna do that as I'm pretty certain it's a gonner.
This is the plug left over, hanging out of car harness. There is no provision on the new unit to plug this into. Purple, light green and black wires. I have no Idea what this does.

What would help greatly if someone has one of these units installed in a 2010 onwards patrol, and a photo taken of the back wiring of it.

Is there a yellow wire in the main connector at the back of the radio? does it have power?

Yeah mate there is a yellow and a red too which has 12v when I test it. Unit has incoming 12v 100%. Just not powering up.

All good mate. The unit is out of my hands now so I'm back to the old cassette player lol.
I should stop being cheap and not buy cheapo $50 decks from wreckers.
Especially out of vehicles that were water damaged like this unit. Funny how wrecker informed me of that only when I returned the dead unit.
