Hi all just wondering if any Gu owners have had this issue, our 99 gu transfer pump died recently, no dramas i thought replaced with second hand one which died the other day so thats 2 pumps in 6 months, admittedly I have no idea how old the 2nd hand one was but it felt wierd.
Has anyone replaced the transfer pump with an aftermarket pump? If so how did it go and what type, Im thinking about one of those coz they are much cheaper than a new genuine one.
Thanks in advance.

G`day mate
mate of mine has had a lot of issues with his and have heard of quite a few playing up.
As we do alot of remote travel it has caused afew problems at times , but for some reason my mate gets home and repairs OE
Can ask him the reason why but some one else here may have an answer.

That concerned me, but I've taken a low tech precaution........ A jiggler syphon hose long enough to reach the bottom of the sub tank.
Going off at slight tangent, I can't work out what the thinking was at Nissan to a) use a transfer pump system in the first place. A pump on each tank with a switch to select either would be far more practical and b) positioning the sub tank in the middle of the vehicle & the main tank at the rear. This just makes no sense to me as far as weight distribution goes. It means that once the main tank is used up, & fuel transferred to the main from the sub (almost as big in my case) that all the fuel weight is right up at the rear of the vehicle rather than in a central position. When we are fully loaded this has an effect on the handling, not dangerous, but noticeable. I know it's possible to transfer the fuel bit by bit before the main tank is empty, rather than all in one hit, but when you have a fuel gauge which sometimes works & sometimes doesn't, & want to work out the mileage for each tank, it's a PIA.
At some stage I might fit separate pumps & a selector switch..... Has anyone done this? If so what's involved .... Is it possible to do this & still have the factory fuel gauges register?

Would separate pumps need a check valve to stop flow back from the other pump's pressure?

How do Toy*ta do it? In the Troopie I had, when one tank got to empty it was just a matter of flicking a switch on the dash to change to the other tank.

I would love to have it work the same way Toyota do it, so if anyone has done this I would love to hear about it too
