Quick question - are they supplied with hose & electrical wire, or do you have to buy these items separately?

Not sure on vdo but the autometer ones have the hose, fittings and only about 150mm of wire for the light.

Surely they would be the same with VDO?

Nah everything you need to connect from the output bung to the gauge is supplied mate. All wire is supplied also.

Make sure you fit the restrictor or you will get crazy readings that can't be relied on.

Bollocks! I bought one advertised as 'new in box' off a private seller on ebay. Came with no hose, no wires, no output bung, no restrictor, no instructions & it appears that the hose connector for the back of the gauge isn't right. Have written to seller asking for a refund, but am not holding my breath. I get a lot of stuff off ebay, & getting jibbed is rare, but I guess it had to happen sooner or later.

Yeah. live & learn. Seemed reasonable if it had all been there. I'm going to put a bit more pressure on the seller for a full refund. Will talk to you later about another gauge.

I know you don't want a big boost engine Cuppa but I would have gone a 0 to 30psi gauge regardless as if you set at say 12psi then your close to the max of the gauge already.

Check this out for a much better deal mate.

Hi Mat

Yeah mine came with the fitting kit though, i have the VDO in my GQ and an Autometer in the GUIV and think the VDO is a far better gauge.

Good that you feel peeved contact Ebay direct ,I've had great success with getting refunds.
They don't want to be stopped by Ebay for Lying , If you got what he described it might be
a bit more difficult, good luck

Received an apologetic letter from the seller, who has offered to send me the appropriate VDO fitting kit. Seems he bought a number of Vdo items at an auto shop closing sale a few years back, & sent the gauge off to me without checking the contents.
Hopefully all will now be good.

I now have the fittings to attach a hose to the gauge, but still have to buy some hose & a tee piece. Problem is I don't understand how the hose attaches to the gauge with the nut & olive. (http://www.howardinstruments.com.au/product_details.php?productid=1086&mdid=b979b9375ba12ddc99d1e23953bfb959)

The ID of the olive is 4.73mm. The OD of the narrow section of the olive is 7.9mm. The OD of the 'collar' action of the olive is 8.97mm. The olive is beveled at each end.
The hole in the top of the nut has a diameter of 6.37mm & is beveled on it's internal edge. The brass fitting the nut screws onto has an internal diameter of 6.13mm & also has a bevel on it's inner lip.

The only way I can think it might be possible to attach a hose, would be to push a 3/16" OD hose through the hole in the top of the nut, & down the middle of the olive, & that possibly when tightened would compress the olive onto the hose to hold it, but I'm not convinced that this would work. Is this how it goes?

I also have a little plastic restrictor which has an OD of 2.91mm, & a flange on one end which appears to fit into the internal end of the olive. If I'm right about how the hose fits into the olive, I guess that means I need a hose of 3/16" OD & 1/8" ID, a hose wall thickness of just 1/32"? That seems very thin, less than 1mm wall thickness?

Please could someone educate me?

The hose usually slides inside then when you tighten the nut it clamps down curling the edge into the hose. I think your on the right track.

Did it not come with a hose? The restrictor goes in the end of the hose, place the nut over the hose followed by the olive, attach it to gauge and tighten the nut.
