Hey guys I have a silver top td42 non turbo and looking at turboing it. I have seen plenty of kits on eBay one in particular which is a td0518g by kiniguwa. Now I run of these turbos on my Vl turbo which gets a lot of abuse on the track with no issues so far and they have a good rep as well. The question I wanna ask is is this turbo to big I don't want big power just a better fuel economy with a bit more go and a touch more torque. Or would I be better off with a ht18 or something similar. Also what will I need to change apart from the obvious. Will I need to change injector pump etc

If you don't change your injector pump then grab a 16G with 8cm housing and billet wheel. If you go to an 11mm pump then an 18g with 6cm housing and billet wheel. If you go to the extremes a 18G with 8cm housing and billet wheel and 12mm pump.

You could also grab a garret 2860 or GTX2863.

A HT18 would be ok but doesn't give you as much room to move as any of the above turbos.

GU airbox is prob the easiest to get in, but there are a couple of aftermarket ones available now. A few blokes have also adapted the square top mounted box to suit, there is a thread around here explaining what they did.

I originally welded on a 3" or 4" pipe to the standard airbox as shown here, that was pre turbo days though = http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?12130-air-intake-set-up&highlight=pizza+filter+turbo
As Matt mentioned, the easiest way is to run the GU airbox. Very easy to put in and no mods. :)

If you have a look at Rosscos TB42 to TD42 conversion thread you can see how someone modified the original box to suit a larger turbo = http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?5432-Diesel-conversion-%28TD42-from-TB42%29

I can't seem to find that thread that Matt is talking about but it is here somewhere....I'll try and find it tonight for you.

I have heard of people using a rb25 turbo on a td42. Reason I'm asking is I have one off my rb25 sitting in the garage doing absolutely nothing. Do you guys know much info on this I have found a thread of one on a auto but not a manual
