starter or ring gear

Hi to all sometimes when I go to start motor I get this squealing type noise if I turn off and on it starts sometimes it takes two or three shots any ideas as to what it is ? 1992 GQ patrol !!

Can be the starter not throwing out properly??

I just changed mine over from it being so dirty it would not throw out properly or disengage straight away...

The one I took out just needs a clean up and I will keep it as a spare.

As Bloodyaussie said mate, I'd be checking the starter first... Its the cheapest easiest part to repair or replace if it is your problem ...

Also be sure to check your cable & terminal connections to makes sure they're getting the power to where its needed....
